Suspecting his wife of having an affair, a man in Da Nang became jealous and stabbed his wife to death.
On April 13, the People's Court of Da Nang City opened a mobile trial for defendant Ho Ngoc Lam (born in 1989, residing in Quan Chau village, Hoa Chau commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang) for the crime of "murder".
According to the indictment, in early September 2023, Ho Ngoc Lam and his wife, Ngo Thi Phuong (born in 1995), often had conflicts because they suspected his wife of having a relationship with another man. During one argument, Phuong left home for about a week.
On the morning of October 1, 2023, Ms. Phuong called Lam and asked him to take her home from Mieu Bong market. The two then drank beer and talked together in a rented room in Quang Chau village (Hoa Chau commune, Hoa Vang district).
That afternoon, Ms. Phuong stopped drinking beer and said she was going to the hair salon. At this time, Lam had the idea of killing his wife and then committing suicide, so he went to the rented room next to Mrs. Bui Thi Mai (born in 1954, Lam's mother), took a knife, hid it under a beer crate and continued drinking beer alone.
Ms. Phuong went to the hair salon but saw many people so she returned to her room and went to bed next to her 8-year-old son to sleep.
At this time, Lam took a knife and stabbed Ms. Phuong many times. Seeing his father stabbing his mother, the son shouted for everyone to come and stop her. Ms. Phuong ran out to the street behind the rented room but was chased by Lam who stabbed her repeatedly with scissors, causing the victim to die. After committing the crime, Lam used scissors to stab himself in the stomach but was stopped by everyone and taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Investigation results determined that Ms. Phuong was stabbed 20 times in the body.
At today's trial, the jury determined that Ho Ngoc Lam committed the crime for despicable motives and sentenced the defendant to life in prison.
