Profited 15 billion VND from brokering many singers and models into prostitution

On April 14, Thai was tried by the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City for prostitution brokerage and disseminating obscene cultural products.

The indictment determined that, after completing his prison term for illegal drug possession, from June 2022, Thai used unregistered phone numbers, impersonating women to join 169 groups on social networks to collect information about girls in need of prostitution to select and lure them to work for him. He then created 7 Telegram groups with different names, with nearly 66,000 members; charging fees for those who wanted to join.

Thai continuously posts sexy pictures, names, ID numbers, birth years, height, weight, and measurements of prostitutes in these groups. Those who want to "have fun" will contact him to negotiate a price of 5-6 million VND for sex one time, and 10-15 million VND for one night.

After agreeing on a price, Thai gave the sex buyer's phone number to the girls to contact directly, arrange a time and place. After the "transaction" was completed, the girls would pay him a brokerage fee.

On January 17, a force led by the Criminal Police Department (C02, Ministry of Public Security) inspected a hotel in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, and discovered two couples buying and selling sex. From there, Thai's actions were discovered. At his residence, the police seized a lot of cash related to the case, a savings book, and froze 8.5 billion VND in his bank account.

The prosecution determined that in more than a year of operation, Thai brokered thousands of prostitution transactions. The "long legs" participating in the ring were diverse, from professional prostitutes to students, models, actors, singers, social media celebrities...

In addition, Thai also posted 121 clips with obscene content on social networks.

In court today, Thai admitted all charges, stating that he started brokering prostitution from June 2022 until his arrest and earned about 15 billion VND.

The defendant said that the prostitutes sent him pictures and body information to post on private groups. Each time a customer wanted to buy sex, Thai received 2-3 million VND in brokerage fees. Among the people the defendant brokered, there were two who were under 16 years old and he did not remember how many times he introduced them to prostitution.

In his final words, Thai expressed remorse, said he realized his mistake and asked the jury to consider reducing his sentence.

After deliberation, the Trial Council sentenced Thai to 12 years in prison for prostitution brokerage; 3 years for disseminating obscene cultural products; The total penalty is 15 years in prison.

According to the Trial Council, Thai's behavior is dangerous to society, he has committed the crime many times, and is a dangerous recidivist, so he needs to be severely punished. Regarding the defendant's brokering of prostitution for 2 people under 16 years old, but it is not clear where these girls are, this behavior should be separated into a case of prostitution of people under 18 years old for further investigation and handling.
