Pham Quang Linh, also known as Quang Linh Vlogs, and Nguyen Thi Thai Hang, also known as Hang Du Muc, along with three others were arrested on charges of defrauding customers.
On April 4, the Ministry of Public Security's Investigation Police Agency announced that it had executed an arrest warrant and searched the residences of Quang Linh Vlogs (member of the board of directors of Chi em rot Group Joint Stock Company), Hang Du Muc (Chairman of the Board of Directors of Chi em rot Group Joint Stock Company) and 3 others to investigate the crime.Production of counterfeit foodandCheating customers, according to articles 193 and 198 of the Penal Code.
The three remaining defendants are Nguyen Phong (Chairman of the Board of Directors of Asia Life Joint Stock Company); Le Tuan Linh (Director, legal representative of Chi Em Rot Group Joint Stock Company); Le Thanh Cong (member of the Board of Directors of Chi Em Rot Group Joint Stock Company).
Previously, Hang Du Muc, Quang Linh Vlogs and Miss Nguyen Thuc Thuy Tien conducted many livestream sessions on social networks, advertising the Kera vegetable candy product. The product was announced by CER Company (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City), starting to be launched on the market at the end of 2024.
Quang Linh and Hang Du Muc were then fined for false advertising, causing confusion about the quality of the announced product. The fine for this act was 70 million VND per individual. They were also forced to correct the information with the violation.
In connection with the incident, Miss Thuy Tien was also fined 25 million VND.
The candy is produced by ASIA LIFE JSC in Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak. Previously, Mr. Le Tuan Linh, General Director of CER, said that the raw materials were purchased from regions in Lam Dong, Dak Lak, Binh Thuan "ensuring quality and clear origin" and 100% of the products were produced at the ASIA factory.
These products were spread on the media and social networks with misleading information, for example "one pill replaces a plate of green vegetables". However, a user brought this candy to the Technical Center for Standards and Quality Measurement 2 for testing, the results showed that the entire box of 30 pills had only 0.51 grams of fiber, far from the advertisement.
CER Company announced that it has sold more than 100,000 boxes of candy to the market, promising to refund if the buyer wants to return the goods.
In the initial test results announced on March 20, the representative of the Food Safety Department noted that the exaggerated advertisement of "one candy equals a plate of vegetables" caused public reaction. The agency said that the test results of Kera vegetable candy had sugar, protein, fat and energy indicators that were "basically consistent with the announcement", but did not specify the fiber content.
