Minh Tan and Hiep Cat communes (Nam Sach, Hai Duong) urgently evacuated the elderly, children, the weak, and the in poor health... in My Xa and Lau Khe villages to safety.
By noon on September 11, the functional forces of Minh Tan commune (Nam Sach) coordinated with the Nam Sach district police force to help 33 people from My Xa village to safety. These were the elderly, children, pregnant women, people with poor health, and the disadvantaged...
They were taken to several rooms at schools in the commune; those in poor health were cared for at the commune health station and all received local support with meals. Many valuable assets of the people were also supported to be raised, moved to the upper floors or taken to a safe place.
My Xa village is located outside the left dike of Thai Binh river, with 189 households and 604 people. Currently, the roads here are flooded from 40-50cm, some low-lying areas are flooded over 1m. However, only a few households have water in their houses. There is still clean water here, the electricity has been cut off to ensure safety. The villagers are still able to take care of their own food and daily activities.
Hiep Cat commune forces supported and brought 16 vulnerable people including the elderly, disabled, war invalids... in Lau Khe village to safety. This village is also located outside the dike, right at the intersection of Thai Binh river and Kinh Thay river. The village has 300 households with 800 people living locally.
The Thai Binh River is currently at level III alert. Local leaders said that authorities are continuing to check, mobilize, and move priority residents to safety. If the water continues to rise to dangerous levels, all residents in the two villages of My Xa and Lau Khe will be evacuated.
