Prosecution and temporary detention of Mr. Le Thanh Van

Mr. Van, residing in Hanoi, is being investigated for his behavior.Taking advantage of position and power to influence others for personal gain, according to Article 358 of the Penal Code. Thai Binh Provincial People's Procuracy has approved the above decisions and orders.

This is a new development in the process of expanding the case of Mr. Luu Binh Nhuong and his accomplices accused of committing acts ofExtortionandTaking advantage of position and power to influence others for personal gain,occurred in Thai Binh province.

The procedural decisions were made after this afternoon the Standing Committee agreed to prosecute, temporarily detain, and search Mr. Van's residence and workplace.

Mr. Van was also temporarily suspended from his duties and powers as a National Assembly delegate and a standing member of the Finance and Budget Committee, a delegate of the 15th National Assembly (Ca Mau province).

The 2013 Constitution and the Law on the Organization of the National Assembly stipulate that National Assembly deputies cannot be arrested, detained, held in custody, or prosecuted without the consent of the National Assembly or the National Assembly Standing Committee. In the case of deputies caught red-handed committing a crime and being detained, the detaining agency must report to the National Assembly or the National Assembly Standing Committee for consideration and decision.

Mr. Le Thanh Van, 60 years old, is from Hau Loc district, Thanh Hoa province. He is a Doctor of Law, a Standing Member of the Finance and Budget Committee of the 14th and 15th National Assembly. He was a National Assembly delegate for 3 consecutive terms 13-15.

He used to work at the Political Department, Brigade 299, Corps I. In January 2004, he worked at the Department of Delegation Affairs, Office of the National Assembly, then held various positions at the Institute of Legislative Studies under the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, then as a Standing Member of the Finance and Budget Committee of the National Assembly.

In December 2014, he was mobilized, transferred and appointed by the Secretariat to join the Executive Committee, the Standing Committee and hold the position of Deputy Secretary of the Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee. A year later, he returned to work at the National Assembly as a Standing Member of the National Assembly's Finance and Budget Committee, until now.
