On April 28, nearly 600 candidates in Hai Duong and some neighboring provinces and cities participated in the thinking assessment test of Hanoi University of Science and Technology at Sao Do University (Chi Linh, Hai Duong).
Although the check-in procedure was done at 7:00 and the exam started at 8:30, many candidates and their parents arrived very early. Many families from other provinces and cities even rented rooms next to the school the night before to arrive at the exam site early.
Living in Hai Duong City, Mr. Nguyen Van Dat only needed about 30 minutes to take his son to Sao Do University to take the thinking assessment exam of Hanoi University of Science and Technology. However, the father and son left at 5 am to be safe and avoid risks on the road.
Mr. Dat said that the Hanoi University of Science and Technology organizing the exam like this is convenient and economical for both parents and candidates in Hai Duong and neighboring provinces and cities. Many families do not have to travel far, rent a room to Hanoi to take the exam. At the same time, it also avoids traffic jams and overload when too many candidates flock to a big city.
Candidates participating in this exam are mainly students from Hai Duong. In addition, there are some students from neighboring provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Hai Phong, Bac Giang, Quang Ninh, Hung Yen, Thai Binh...
Ms. Vu Thi Huong in Hai Phong City only took more than 1 hour to travel to the exam site of Sao Do University. Although the exam was in another province, this time she and her children did not have to leave the day before to rent a room. This was quite convenient and cost-saving for Ms. Huong's family as well as many other families. While waiting for her child to take the exam, Ms. Huong said that she was more worried and nervous than her children. She also shared that her child's goal was to take the exam to enter Hanoi University of Science and Technology, and also applied to several other schools.
According to the reporter's records on the morning of April 28, the weather was quite hot, many parents took advantage of the opportunity to sit on stone benches, under trees or at coffee shops while their children took the exam. Sao Do University also arranged a library space for parents to sit and wait.
Preparations at the examination room and welcoming candidates into the examination room went smoothly. Youth volunteers were present early, actively supporting and guiding candidates and their parents. Security control and checking of candidates before entering the examination room were also carried out carefully and strictly.
Before entering the exam room, candidates must leave their personal belongings at least 25 meters away from the exam area. Each candidate will then have their ID checked, have their photo taken, and have their ID stamped before entering the exam room.
Sao Do University arranged 6 examination rooms with more than 300 computers to serve candidates in taking the exam, and assigned staff to participate in invigilation and exam service.
Candidates will take the test on the computer, consisting of 3 parts: mathematical thinking (60 minutes), reading comprehension (30 minutes) and scientific thinking/problem solving (60 minutes). These are 3 independent test parts, the test questions will focus on assessing the candidate's thinking ability, not testing knowledge of any subject.
Most candidates participated in the exam with a relaxed mentality, without stress because there are many other opportunities to apply for university. Candidates all tried to do well on the test to increase their chances of being admitted to their dream school, reducing the pressure in the national high school graduation exam.
At exactly 11:15 a.m., the morning exam session ended. As one of the first candidates to leave the exam room, Dam Duy Anh (Hong Quang High School, Hai Duong City) assessed that the scientific thinking section was a bit difficult, but the reading comprehension section was quite easy. "I found the mathematical thinking section to be okay, if you review carefully, you will probably do well, however, I just realized that I got one math question wrong," Duy Anh added.
Hoang Ngoc Thuy Duong, a student at Thuan Thanh 1 High School (Bac Ninh), walked out of the exam room feeling relaxed because she did quite well on the test. Thuy Duong said: "I did best in the math thinking section, and I also did quite well in the reading comprehension and scientific thinking sections. I scored more than 70/100 points myself." If the results are as assessed, Thuy Duong wishes to apply to the Bioengineering major at Hanoi University of Science and Technology. According to a survey by reporters, Hanoi University of Science and Technology is also the wish of most candidates participating in this thinking assessment exam.
On the afternoon of April 28, candidates will take part in the second session of the first round of exams, starting at 2:30 p.m. This year, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, in collaboration with the Department of Education and Training of Hai Duong and Sao Do University, will organize 3 rounds of thinking assessment exams. In addition to this round, there will be 2 more rounds on June 8-9 and June 15-16.
With a maximum score of 100 points, candidates will use the results of this thinking assessment test for university admission. Currently, more than 40 schools use the thinking assessment test results of Hanoi University of Science and Technology for admission in 2024.
A representative of Hanoi University of Science and Technology said that candidates who take the thinking assessment test and get a score of 50/100 or more have a chance to enter Hanoi University of Science and Technology.
