Math and literature subjects are not multiplied by a factor of 2; for the first time, the IT exam for grade 10 at Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted... are new points of the 10th grade high school entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year in Hai Duong.
On March 11, the People's Committee of Hai Duong province issued a plan for 10th grade high school enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year with many notable new points.
Accordingly, for admission to grade 10 public high schools, candidates will take exams in three subjects: math, literature and English. The math and literature exams will be in essay format, lasting 120 minutes each. The English exam will be in multiple choice format, lasting 90 minutes. The admission score is the total score of all three exams (no exam has a score of 1.0 or lower) and priority and incentive points (if any).
The exam time for the whole province is June 3-4, 2025.
Thus, the new point this year compared to last year is that math and literature are not multiplied by a factor of 2; the time for the English test is increased by 30 minutes. The test time is 1 day later than last year.
In addition, candidates who win national prizes but are not organized by the Ministry of Education and Training or in coordination with ministries and ministerial-level agencies on a national scale for cultural, artistic and sports competitions, competitions, and scientific and technical research competitions will not be directly admitted as in previous years. The old regulations do not specify the agencies and units organizing the competitions and exams, only requiring candidates to win national prizes.
Regarding priority, the bonus points for the 3 priority groups are 2; 1.5; 1 point respectively. The old regulation was 3; 2.5; 2 points.
Last year, candidates were not awarded consolation points, but this year, students who won first, second, or third prizes (or gold, silver, or bronze medals) in provincial-level competitions organized by the Department of Education and Training or in coordination with departments and branches organized on a provincial scale for national-level competitions in culture, arts, sports, scientific research, and technology will be awarded 0.5 - 1.5 points depending on the prize ranking.
The content of admission to grade 10 at Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted is basically the same as last year. In the 2025-2026 school year, Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted will enroll 12 grade 10 classes with 384 students (32 students/class). Of which, there are 2 specialized classes for math; physics, chemistry, biology, information technology, literature, history, geography, English, French, Russian each subject has 1 specialized class.
The new point this year is that for the first time, the IT exam is organized to recruit candidates for the IT specialized class. Specifically, the IT specialized class recruits 16 candidates by taking the math exam, and 16 candidates by taking the IT exam. In previous years, only the math exam scores were used to recruit candidates for the IT specialized class.
Specialized subject exam time is June 5, 2025.
Regarding the enrollment content of non-public high schools, educational institutions implementing regular education programs will conduct enrollment by selection method (based on the 10th grade high school entrance exam scores for the 2025-2026 school year or a combination of the 10th grade high school entrance exam scores and the results of secondary school study and training). These units will develop an enrollment plan and submit it to the Department of Education and Training for approval before April 30, 2025.
In the 2024-2025 school year, the whole province will have about 30,400 grade 9 students. In the 2025-2026 school year, the whole province will enroll about 27,606 grade 10 students, including 15,546 students in 41 public high schools, 7,920 students in 18 non-public high schools and 4,140 students in Vocational Education - Continuing Education Centers, Intermediate School of Culture, Arts and Tourism.
Thus, nearly 2,800 9th graders will likely attend colleges, vocational schools in the 9+ system or other orientations. Vocational schools in the province can accommodate about 7,500 students in the 9+ system. In this system, students study both general education and vocational training. After 3 years, they will have a high school diploma and a vocational secondary diploma.
