Nguyen Van Cu High School (Hai Duong City) is the first public high school in Hai Duong to let students take Saturday off.
Nguyen Van Cu High School has arranged its timetable to ensure the educational program according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training. Accordingly, from March 17, Nguyen Van Cu High School has implemented teaching and learning 5 days/week. Students study from Monday to Friday, and have Saturday off. The school has increased the amount of formal study time in the afternoon accordingly.
This decision is in line with the context after Circular No. 29/2024/TT-BGDDT dated December 30, 2024 of the Minister of Education and Training regulating extra teaching and learning took effect from February 14. According to Circular 29, the majority of students in grades 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11 will no longer be able to take extra afternoon classes at school as before.
Previously, the whole province had Marie Curie Secondary and High School belonging to the private school system, Le Quy Don Secondary School (Hai Duong City) and Ninh Giang district allowing secondary school students to have Saturday off.
Since 2019, the Ministry of Education and Training has provided guidance on teaching 2 sessions/day for junior high and high school levels. If teaching all day, schools are not allowed to teach more than 4 morning periods for junior high school and 5 periods for high school.
The maximum number of afternoon classes is 3, the maximum number of classes per week is 42 for junior high school and 48 for high school. Schools are proactive in arranging a schedule of 5 or 6 days/week. However, not all units and localities can implement 2 sessions/day and 5 days/week due to issues related to facilities, number of classrooms, teaching staff, etc.
