On the afternoon of November 23, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to a reporter's question about the case of transporting 216kg of drugs across the country on November 11, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court held a first-instance trial; among the 18 defendants sentenced to death, there were some defendants of Korean and Chinese nationality, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said:
According to information received, on November 11, the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City held a first-instance trial of the case of illegal drug transportation. Among the defendants sentenced to death, there were two defendants of Korean nationality and one defendant of Chinese nationality.
In case of appeal or protest, the authorities will continue to handle it according to the provisions of the law on criminal procedure.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang reaffirmed that Vietnam is determined to strictly handle acts of producing, trading, and transporting drugs without distinguishing between violators being Vietnamese citizens or foreign citizens.
