Murderer who hid in acacia forest sentenced to death

Nguyen Thanh Tam, 27 years old, was sentenced to the highest sentence for murdering a woman at a coffee shop, stealing a SH Mode motorbike, and then hiding in an acacia forest in Long An.

On August 16, Tam was sentenced to death by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court for murder and 8 years in prison for robbery.;In total, the defendant must serve the death sentence and compensate the victim's family 359 million VND.

According to the Trial Panel, Tam's actions caused particularly serious consequences, and the highest sentence should be applied to match the defendant's crime.

The indictment determined that because he owed money to many people, Tam had the idea of ​​robbing the people working at the erotic coffee shop in Hoc Mon district, on Highway 22. On the morning of January 6, Tam took a machete hidden behind his shirt, sold his old motorbike for 600,000 VND, then walked to Ms. Hong's coffee shop (asked to look after a friend who was returning to his hometown). Tam saw an SH Mode motorbike inside the shop, so he had the idea of ​​robbing it.

Tam pretended to ask the woman, "Is the price for aphrodisiac three hundred?" and then took advantage of her distraction to lock the main door. He went into the bathroom to get the machete hidden in his jacket, then turned around and repeatedly slashed Hong's head and face until the victim became motionless.

Tam Luc took 2 million VND from the victim's pocket, took the SH Mode motorbike and drove back to Long An.

At noon that same day, the homeowner discovered Ms. Hong lying motionless in a pool of blood and called for help to take her to the emergency room, but the victim died.

Following the trail, the police discovered Tam hiding in a hundreds of hectares of acacia forest in Ben Luc district, Long An. Ho Chi Minh City police coordinated with Long An police to mobilize thousands of police to search for him for 3 days and arrested him later.

In court today, Tam admitted to his crime, saying that he "did something so stupid". "Because I owed gangsters 40 million VND, I was threatened so much that I intended to rob the victim's motorbike", Tam said.

In his final words, Tam expressed remorse and asked the victim's family for forgiveness.
