Surrounded by fire while fighting a forest fire at an altitude of 1,600-2,000 m on Tay Con Linh peak, two forest rangers died.
Mr. Hoang Hai Ly, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ha Giang, said that this morning, the bodies of two forest rangers were found while fighting a forest fire on Tay Con Linh peak in the area bordering Phuong Tien, Lao Chai, and Xin Chai communes, Vi Xuyen district.
The fire broke out at 2am yesterday, Ha Giang authorities mobilized 1,000 people to put out the fire. Authorities later discovered two officers from Vi Xuyen Forest Protection Department and Phong Quang - Tay Con Linh Special Use Forest Protection Department surrounded by fire but could not rescue them due to the large fire. Some people suffered from smoke inhalation and had to be taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
By last night, the forces had controlled two fires in Lao Chai and Xin Chai communes. The fire in Phuong Tien commune was complicated due to dry air, strong winds, and thick vegetation. Therefore, the authorities mobilized 400 people to take turns fighting the fire. During the night, instant noodles and dry food were supplied to the forces.
