According to the announcement on the evening of July 13 by the Ministry of Education and Training, the three students who won gold medals were Dang Tuan Anh (Chu Van An High School, Hanoi), Nguyen Tien Loc (School of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) and Nguyen Si Hieu (Tran Phu High School, Hai Phong).

The silver medal went to Ho Duc Trung (Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted, Thua Thien Hue). All four students are in grade 12.

This is Vietnam's best achievement at IBO since 2019.

The 35th International Biology Olympiad was held in the Republic of Kazakhstan from July 7 to 13. The total number of contestants was 320, coming from 81 countries and territories - the largest number ever.

Students will have two days of exams, each day lasting 6-8 hours. The theory exam day will have two papers, and the practical exam day will cover topics such as Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Animal Anatomy and Physiology, and Informatics - Biology.

"This year's exam requires candidates to have a good understanding of both theory and proficiency in practical skills, correctly and effectively applying knowledge and skills from classical to modern to solve a variety of problems," the ministry said. "In particular, for the first time, many Vietnamese students achieved high results in practical exams."

According to the ministry, the IBO results show the right direction in discovering, selecting and nurturing excellent students in biology.
