The Ministry of Education and Training has just sent a document to the People's Committees of provinces and centrally-run cities on organizing the Lifelong Learning Response Week in 2024.
Accordingly, the Week will be held from October 1 to 7, 2024, with the theme “Developing a reading culture to promote lifelong learning”. The opening ceremony will be held on October 1.
Based on the 2024 theme and specific local conditions, the People's Committees of the provinces direct the implementation of Lifelong Learning Response Week with appropriate, flexible, and creative forms and contents, mobilizing maximum resources to organize activities to develop a reading culture to promote lifelong learning.
The Ministry of Education and Training suggests a number of activities, including: Promoting and innovating information and propaganda activities on mass media, electronic information portals of relevant units and organizations, and social networking sites about the importance and role of developing a reading culture to promote lifelong learning. Localities hang banners and slogans at educational institutions, workshops, factories, offices, agencies and public places; organize propaganda in many forms about the theme and activities of the Week so that people know and participate.
Localities organize the Opening Ceremony of the Week with the participation of representatives of Party committees, authorities, agencies, social organizations, and related enterprises; representatives of educational institutions, cultural institutions, and mass media agencies; representatives of all classes of people, students, and trainees in the area. At the same time, deploy the Week's activities in appropriate and effective forms; focus on remote areas, remote areas, and areas with difficult conditions, in order to create a widespread response from society, and bring the Week's theme into life in a practical way.
The Ministry of Education and Training also suggests organizing Book Fairs to introduce new books, creating a space for interaction between authors and readers; establishing book and newspaper reading clubs by topic and age, helping people read and share their feelings together; organizing writing, drawing, and storytelling competitions based on books and newspapers to stimulate creativity and love for reading books and newspapers; organizing seminars to share experiences on renovating school libraries and developing a reading culture in educational institutions and communities; organizing events, exchange activities, competitions, seminars... to encourage students, teachers, administrators, and people to read books; mobilizing students and people to donate books to build classroom bookcases for schools in remote areas.
Educational institutions innovate teaching methods, testing and assessment by utilizing learning resources, reference materials, and information outside of textbooks and curricula to improve the quality of education, encourage students to read printed and digital documents, and practice self-study and lifelong learning skills.
Localities diversify library services; promote mobile library services in localities, especially in rural areas and areas with difficult socio-economic conditions; increase the circulation of books, newspapers and documents between libraries, focusing on the circulation from the public library system to rural areas, mountainous areas, areas with difficult socio-economic conditions, to schools, border posts, prisons, and private libraries serving the community.
