Launching a movement to compete in self-study and lifelong learning

This morning, September 29, the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education celebrated the 15th anniversary of Vietnam Promoting Education Day (October 2, 2008 - October 2, 2023) and officially launched the emulation movement "Each citizen self-study, lifelong learning, meeting the requirements of sustainable development in the digital transformation period".

Speaking at the event, Professor, Doctor Nguyen Thi Doan - former Vice President, President of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education, said that Vietnam Education Promotion Day on October 2 has a double meaning, both as the day to introduce to the whole nation a social association with the mission of contributing to making Vietnam a learning nation, and as the day to launch the movement for the whole nation to study for life.

"Thus, October 2 is both the anniversary of the Association's founding and the launching day of the lifelong learning movement for the entire people, honoring those who have made many contributions to the cause of 'growing people'... This is also the day to demonstrate the responsibility of the entire Party, the entire people, and the entire society for building a learning society and developing sustainable education in our country," Professor Nguyen Thi Doan emphasized.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha congratulated and highly appreciated the efforts and achievements of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education in recent times, affirming that the Party and the State always pay attention to and accompany the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education. According to the Deputy Prime Minister, in today's era, the spirit of lifelong learning needs to be spread strongly like the "popular education" movement in 1945 launched by the Party and Uncle Ho to all people. If our country wants to develop, it needs new human resources with a knowledge-based economy, a Green economy and Digital Transformation.

On June 10, the Prime Minister launched the movement "The whole country competes to build a learning society, promoting lifelong learning in the period of 2023-2030". In the coming time, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha requested agencies, ministries, branches and organizations to closely coordinate with the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education to continue to pay attention to and promote the response to the emulation movement launched by the Prime Minister.

At the event, on behalf of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education, Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education Le Manh Hung also officially launched the emulation movement "Each citizen self-study, lifelong learning, meeting the requirements of sustainable development in the digital transformation period".

The movement aims to raise people's awareness of the role and importance of self-study and lifelong learning, meeting the requirements of the digital transformation period for each individual and family - one of the decisive factors in building a civilized and happy life. In addition, the movement also aims to build people-centered learning models, ensuring that each person implements the learning citizen model well, focusing on the use and strong application of information technology, creating real changes, achieving substantial and sustainable results in line with the Government's national digital transformation program, contributing to building a digital society in Vietnam.

To effectively implement the movement, the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education has set out key tasks and solutions such as actively advising authorities at all levels and coordinating with all levels and sectors in promoting education, building learning models, the core of which is the model of learning citizens; proposing and coordinating with the Propaganda Department to advise the Party Committee to direct a plan to inspect the construction of each Party organization as a learning unit, each Party member's family becoming a learning family, each Party member meeting the standards of the title of learning citizen.

The Association will also coordinate with the education and training sector to effectively implement Decision 1373/QD-TTg, dated July 30, 2021 of the Prime Minister and the project "Building a learning society in the period of 2021-2030"; coordinate with the cultural sector to strengthen the education of the tradition of studiousness among the people, advise and propose to authorities at all levels to include the criteria of learning families as criteria in recognizing cultural families at the grassroots level; mobilize each family to have a bookshelf, promote the reading culture movement among the people, support self-study and learning for adults with results.

In addition, it is necessary to innovate propaganda work on building learning models and improving the quality of activities of organizations at all levels, and diversifying types of funds to encourage learning and talent.

According to Vice President and General Secretary of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education Le Manh Hung, the movement is a practical activity to implement Decision 387/QD-TTg, dated March 25, 2022 of the Prime Minister on the Program "Promoting lifelong learning movement in families, clans, communities, and units for the period 2021-2030"; Decision 677/QD-TTg, dated June 3, 2022 on the Program "Building a model of learning citizens for the period 2021-2030"; Decision 749/QD-TTg, dated June 3, 2020 of the Prime Minister approving the "National Digital Transformation Program to 2025, with a vision to 2030" and responding to the movement "The whole country competes to build a learning society, promote lifelong learning in the period 2023-2030" was just launched by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on June 10.
