Cuong 'martial arts master' and 7 security guards detained for brawl in Phu Quoc

Vu Manh Cuong (aka Cuong "martial arts master") and 7 others are being detained in connection with a brawl at An Thoi seaport, Phu Quoc.

On the morning of April 30, the Investigation Police Department of Phu Quoc City Police (Kien Giang) announced that it had just initiated a case of "Disturbing public order" related to the fight between An Thoi port security guards and residents that occurred on the afternoon of April 26.

The Criminal Police Department is temporarily detaining 8 people related to the case to serve the investigation.

The eight suspects involved include: Vu Manh Cuong (aka Cuong "martial arts master", 40 years old, residing in Ho Chi Minh City), Luu Van Nuoi (29 years old, residing in Kien Giang), Lam Tran Thuong (29 years old, residing in Ca Mau), Doan Van Nhu (32 years old, residing in Bac Lieu), Huynh Tan Dat (31 years old, residing in Ca Mau), Vo Ba Trinh (26 years old, residing in Phu Quoc), Lam Hoang Kien (38 years old, residing in Rach Gia City) and Tran Van Tien (35 years old, residing in Phu Quoc).

According to initial investigation, at around 4:00 p.m. on April 26, at An Thoi seaport area, a scuffle and fight occurred between security forces of NAMAS An Thoi International Port Company Limited and households doing business in the port area.

Kien Giang police said that the joint venture between Saigon Port Joint Stock Company and Namaste Investment and Development Joint Stock Company leased the right to exploit the infrastructure assets of An Thoi seaport from the Vietnam Maritime Administration, for a lease term of 41 years, with a rental price of VND952 billion.

After that, the joint venture of Saigon Port Joint Stock Company and Namaste Investment and Development Joint Stock Company authorized NAMAS An Thoi International Port Company Limited to exploit and operate An Thoi seaport.

The guards involved in the incident

According to the contract, on April 27, NAMAS An Thoi International Port Company Limited took over the site.

This company hired forces from Lucky Security Company (Ward 7, Duong Dong Ward) to perform security duties at the seaport.

During the takeover, a conflict arose between the company's security force and the residents doing business in the port area, leading to a fight that injured 3 people.

“Phu Quoc City Police promptly arrived and immediately invited 17 related subjects to investigate and handle their acts of disturbing public order and intentionally causing injury. Currently, the situation in the An Thoi seaport area has basically stabilized,” Kien Giang Police informed.
