Many pedagogical students in Ho Chi Minh City unexpectedly received more than VND 127 million from the account of Saigon University with the content of supporting living expenses according to Decree 116/2020 of the Government.
On January 16, many students received VND 127,050,000 as living expenses for the 2021-2022, 2022-2023, 2023-2024 school years and 5 months of the 2024-2025 school year according to Decree 116/2020 of the Government in Ho Chi Minh City.
Thus, students are supported for a total of 35 months, equivalent to 3.63 million VND/month/student.
In this round of support, there are more than 600 pedagogical students studying at two schools, Saigon University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. They are students admitted to university in 2021 and are the first class to apply for support policies according to Decree 116/2020 of the Government. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the implementation has encountered many difficulties, legal problems, and document processing... so the support has only now been disbursed.
On the afternoon of January 16, a representative of Saigon University confirmed that this morning, the living allowance had been transferred to the students according to regulations. In total, the students were supported with living allowance for 35 months, this amount was transferred directly to the students' personal accounts by the school.
Of which, tuition fees are refunded to the training institution, and living expenses are refunded to the student. In addition, any school that temporarily collects tuition fees from students will also receive a refund of the amount paid during this period.
It is known that according to Decree 116/2020 of the Government, the policy of supporting tuition fees and living expenses for pedagogical students is trained in 3 categories, including training according to social needs; training according to the method of assigning tasks, ordering or bidding; and free training, not registering to enjoy the policy.
Students in the first two categories are entitled to a tuition-free policy and are supported with a living allowance of VND3.63 million/month, for no more than 10 months per academic year. Students who are independent and do not register for the policy will have to cover their own tuition and living expenses.
However, according to Decree 116, student teachers who have benefited from the policy will have to reimburse the cost if they do not work in the education sector after 2 years of graduation; do not work for a minimum period of time equal to twice the training period from the date of recruitment; students transfer to another training sector, voluntarily drop out of school, do not complete the training program or are disciplined and forced to drop out of school.
