Developing a reading culture promotes lifelong learning

On the morning of October 4, the Hai Duong Department of Education and Training opened the Lifelong Learning Response Week 2024 with the theme "Developing a reading culture to promote lifelong learning".

The opening ceremony of the Lifelong Learning Response Week 2024 was held directly at the Department of Education and Training of Hai Duong.

The opening ceremony was held directly at the Department of Education and Training and online at the bridge points of the Departments of Education and Training, high schools and vocational education - continuing education centers in the province.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Do Duy Hung, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Hai Duong, said that the education sector must be a pioneer in building and developing a reading culture, and called on all managers, teachers and staff of the Hai Duong education sector to join hands in developing a reading culture in schools.

Mr. Do Duy Hung, Deputy Director of Hai Duong Department of Education and Training, requested units to effectively organize school library activities.

Mr. Hung suggested that units promote and innovate information and propaganda activities on the importance and role of developing a reading culture to promote lifelong learning. Effectively organize school library activities: introduce books, build spaces and reading movements; organize exchange activities, competitions, seminars... to encourage students, teachers, and administrators to read.

Strengthening the application of information technology, optimizing technology platforms, and digital transformation to improve the quality of school library activities; innovating teaching methods, innovating testing and evaluation in the direction of utilizing learning resources, reference materials, and information outside of textbooks to encourage students to read documents, thereby training students' self-study and lifelong learning abilities.

Lifelong Learning Week 2024 is held from October 1-7.

The opening ceremony was held online to the Departments of Education and Training, high schools and vocational education and continuing education centers in the province.

On this occasion, the Provincial Association for Promoting Education and the Red Star Club (Hanoi) donated books to the Department of Education and Training of Hai Duong. A representative of the Marie Curie inter-level school system in Hai Duong introduced the Scholarship Fund for disadvantaged students. Accordingly, each school year, the Marie Curie inter-level school system will award 50 scholarships, each worth 1 million VND, to disadvantaged students with excellent academic performance.

Dr. Vu Duong Thuy Nga, former Director of the Department of Libraries, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, conveyed some solutions to develop a reading culture to promote lifelong learning.

After the opening ceremony, all librarians of primary, secondary, high schools, and Vocational Education - Continuing Education Centers listened to a number of experts in developing reading culture convey solutions to develop reading culture; standardize school library activities; and guide the use of VietBiblio library management software to build digital libraries in schools.
