Suspect in the murder of mother, wife, and 2 children said the motive for the murder was poverty.

After more than 20 hours of urgent verification and investigation, at around 12:30 on January 18, forces of Hanoi City Police in coordination with the Departments of the Ministry of Public Security and Ba Ria - Vung Tau Provincial Police arrested the suspect in the case of 4 deaths in Hoang Long Commune, Phu Xuyen District, Hanoi City.

According to the initial investigation, suspect Vu Van Vuong admitted to killing his wife and two children. Vu Van Vuong showed signs of depression, mental abnormalities, and tested negative for drugs.

During the "hot" investigation here, Vu Van Vuong initially confessed: At around 10:00 a.m. on January 15, Vuong used a crab pounder to hit and strangle his daughter, Vu Thu H., to death, then hid the body under the bed. At noon, when his son, Vu Thanh T., came home, Vuong told him to go to sleep. Then, at around 3:00 p.m. the same day, Vuong used a hammer to kill his son and hid the body under the bed. In the evening, Vuong's wife, Do Thi T., came home from work. At around 11:00 p.m., Vuong used a hammer to hit his wife's head and strangle her to death, then continued to hide the body under the bed.

At around 1 a.m. on January 16, Vuong strangled his mother, who had been ill for a long time and was bedridden, to death. After committing the crime, Vuong wrote a letter and took sleeping pills to commit suicide but did not die. In the afternoon of January 16, Vuong took a bus from Hanoi to Da Nang, then took a bus from Da Nang to Vung Tau City, hired a motorbike taxi to Lien Tri Pagoda to pray for the victims. Vuong stated that his motive for committing the crime was to free his family from poverty.

Previously, at around 2:00 p.m. on January 17, Ms. N's daughter discovered her mother dead in the outer room of the house.

After preparing the burial with her family and neighbors, the daughter went into the bedroom and was shocked to discover three more bodies. These bodies were lying next to each other under the bed.

According to the village chief, Ms. N. lives with her son's family every day. When the incident was discovered, Ms. N.'s son was not in the area.

Locals said that Vuong spends his days at home weaving bamboo and rattan and taking care of his elderly mother. Vuong’s two children in the incident are 16 and 19 years old, respectively, and his wife is 50 years old.
