A large drug ring was discovered after 5 bags of drugs were thrown off a passenger bus.

On December 20, the information was announced by the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department (C04, Ministry of Public Security) at a press conference on the results of drug prevention and control in 2024. Currently, 10 people have been prosecuted.

Earlier, on the afternoon of August 30, a passenger bus from Dien Chau, Nghe An to Hanoi stopped in front of the My Dinh Stadium square. The bus assistant pulled out 5 sacks and 2 black nylon bags from the trunk and left them on the side of the road waiting for someone to claim them.

After the vehicle left, two young men rode a motorbike to receive the goods, but the police swooped in and stopped them. 110 kg of synthetic drugs in 5 sacks and 170 electronic cigarettes were seized.

Ho Quang Nhan (25 years old, bus assistant) along with Quan Trong Cao and Ly Van Huy (both 22 years old, from Nghe An) were arrested one after another.

Cao confessed that in addition to the drugs caught red-handed, he also sent 3 cardboard boxes to his neighbor's house in Minh Khai ward, Bac Tu Liem district. That was 62 kg of synthetic drugs.

Expanding the investigation, the task force arrested Le Minh Toi, a resident of Ho Chi Minh City, and seized 39 kg of drugs. The mastermind suspect, a Laotian national living in Vietnam, was also arrested, but the police have not yet released his identity.

Ship 2 tons of marijuana to Vietnam in 2 months

In another case, C04 said the suspects took advantage of cyberspace to illegally buy, sell, and transport exceptionally large quantities of marijuana, distributing them to locations across the country.

In mid-November, detectives discovered that Duong Dinh Quang, 31 years old, was hired by the mastermind to go from Dong Nai to the border to receive drugs and transfer them to Binh Duong to deliver to Nguyen Tien Dung.

On the morning of November 15, the task force caught Quang red-handed delivering 15 sacks of marijuana and 10 boxes of marijuana extract to Dung.

Searching Dung's house, the police seized 3 sacks of marijuana, totaling 350 kg, and 10 kg of marijuana extract. In Ho Chi Minh City, Bac Giang, Dong Nai, and Vietnam Post, authorities seized another large amount of marijuana.

Quang admitted that over the past two months he had transported 7 shipments of marijuana, about 2 tons, from abroad to Vietnam.

Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Vien, Director of Department C04, assessed that drug crimes are still complicated on all routes, including sea, air, and post. Gangs are increasingly sophisticated, taking advantage of high technology to commit crimes.

In the first 11 months of 2024, police forces cracked down on more than 28,700 cases, arrested more than 48,600 suspects, and seized 645 kg of heroin; 1.5 tons of marijuana; 3.1 tons and 3.6 million synthetic drug pills, 56 kg of opium, 115 guns, and many bullets.
