Khanh Hoa province spends 75 billion VND to exempt tuition fees for public preschool and primary schools, including continuing education, this school year.
The policy was approved by the Provincial People's Council at the 15th session on the morning of September 13.
According to a leader of the Department of Education and Training, this comes from the assessment that the local socio-economic situation is still facing many difficulties, and people are still affected by natural disasters and epidemics.
"This is the first time Khanh Hoa has exempted 100% of tuition fees for students, helping to reduce the financial burden on parents and minimize the rate of school dropouts," said a representative of the Department.
Khanh Hoa currently has 521 kindergartens and primary schools, of which more than 470 are public schools. The total number of students in the province is about 290,000. In the previous two school years, the province supported 50% of tuition fees at all levels.
Currently, most provinces and cities have announced tuition fees for the new school year, commonly at 100,000-300,000 VND per month, per student. Only 5-year-old preschool children and primary school students do not have to pay tuition fees according to the general policy of the state.
Before Khanh Hoa, three localities exempted tuition fees from kindergarten to grade 12: Hai Phong, Da Nang and Ba Ria - Vung Tau. In addition, some provinces reduced tuition fees by 50%, such as Vinh Phuc and Long An.
