On September 20, the Canadian Embassy in Vietnam announced that Canada has provided 560,000 Canadian dollars (about more than 10 billion VND) in humanitarian assistance to Vietnamese people affected by severe flooding and landslides caused by storm No. 3 (Yagi).
Canada has allocated $350,000 to support Oxfam Canada in providing water, sanitation and hygiene kits, as well as gender-sensitive health and social services to vulnerable communities affected by flooding and landslides following the storm.
Canada also provided $160,000 to the Canadian Red Cross through its Emergency Disaster Assistance Fund (EDAF) to provide food, water, sanitation, health care, shelter and cash assistance.
In addition, CAD$50,000 is allocated to the Asian Management and Development Institute (AMDI) in Vietnam through the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) to provide emergency relief and recovery assistance, as well as build the capacity of local communities in Lao Cai and Cao Bang to respond to future natural disasters.
According to the Embassy of Canada, the country is committed to responding to humanitarian situations, including natural disasters, pandemics and conflicts around the world. Canada's emergency response focuses on supporting people in crisis based on their most urgent needs, such as clean water, health services, emergency care, food and temporary shelter.
Canada's humanitarian assistance often takes the form of providing financial support to experienced humanitarian partners, such as United Nations agencies, the Red Cross or non-governmental organizations.
Sharing about the humanitarian assistance for Vietnamese people affected by severe flooding and landslides caused by Typhoon No. 3 (Yagi), Mr. Shawn Steil, Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam, emphasized that this assistance includes support for domestic and international non-governmental organizations as well as the Red Cross to meet the most urgent needs.
Canada continues to monitor the situation closely and stands ready to act in solidarity with the Vietnamese people, whose resilience and tenacity continue to inspire.
