Ms. Nguyen Thi Tan is disabled and lives alone in a dilapidated house.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tan, 78 years old, in Bich Cam village, Quang Phuc commune, Tu Ky district (Hai Duong), has been disabled since childhood and lives alone in a dilapidated level 4 house.

Chairman of Quang Phuc Commune Red Cross Society commented on Mrs. Tan's family situation.

Mrs. Tan has been disabled since childhood. Her arms are stiff and her legs ache when she walks. Her elbows and legs are atrophied and she cannot do anything.

Mrs. Tan walked slowly, dragging her steps out of the yard and back into the house. She also suffered from a number of chronic illnesses, making her health even weaker.

She has 5 siblings. The eldest brother died of illness, the remaining 2 younger sisters married men in the South, both are old, the economy is difficult, living nearby is only the younger brother who is 60 years old. All her daily activities and meals are taken care of by her younger brother. Her younger brother is also often sick, the economy is difficult, the main income depends on a few fields of rice.

She currently lives in a 20-square-meter house built in 2012. The house is dilapidated, the walls are moldy, it leaks when it rains, and the corrugated iron roof tiles are not heat-resistant, so it is very hot in the summer. The corrugated iron roof was blown away by storm No. 3, and there is no money to repair it, so it is only temporarily covered with a few torn corrugated iron sheets.

She receives a monthly social security allowance for the disabled of 760,000 VND, which is not enough to buy medicine.

4(2).jpg — Storm No. 3 blew away some of the corrugated iron sheets on the roof. Not having enough money to repair it, Ms. Tan had to ask someone to make temporary repairs.

Ms. Ngo Thi Nhung, President of the Quang Phuc Commune Red Cross Society, said: “Mrs. Tan’s situation is very difficult. Her house has been leaking for a long time and the corrugated iron roof was blown away by the storm. She is disabled and has many illnesses and is old. The Society hopes that benefactors will create conditions to help her so that she can have more money to re-roof her house and buy medicine to comfort her in her old age.”
