The difficult situation of a single father raising a disabled child of Mr. Nguyen Van Tuong (born in 1989) in Phu Trieu village, Lien Hong commune (Hai Duong city) is in dire need of help from kind-hearted people.
Mr. Tuong started a family with Ms. Nguyen Thi Man from Lien Hong commune in 2013, but many years later, he still had no children. In 2019, he and his wife decided to use artificial insemination and gave birth to Nguyen Thi Tuong Vy. But unlike other children, she was not as lucky as other children. At the age of 5, she could not speak. In 2021, Mr. Tuong's wife gave birth to their second child, Nguyen Bao Han. She was born healthy but could not walk, she could only crawl or drag her knees on the floor. Both children were born prematurely.
With the desire to give birth to a healthy child, to be a support for her elderly parents and two unlucky sisters, Mr. Tuong and his wife decided to have a third child. During her pregnancy, Ms. Man had regular check-ups and was warned by the doctor of unusual signs. In early May, when the fetus was only 29 weeks old, Ms. Man felt uncomfortable so her family took her to Bach Mai Hospital. Although the doctor ordered an immediate cesarean section, she was only able to save the baby.
Due to being born prematurely, the baby had to stay in an incubator for nearly 3 months. Over the phone, Mr. Tuong said that the baby had just been released from the incubator and if the baby progresses well, he will be discharged from the hospital in the near future.
Mr. Tuong is a freelancer. Since getting married, the money they have saved has been used for artificial insemination and treatment for their child. Currently, baby Tuong Vy is being taken care of by her maternal grandparents, while baby Bao Han lives with her paternal grandparents.
To treat the two children, every morning, the two families take the children to Hai Duong Children's Hospital for physical therapy, and in the afternoon, they hire teachers to come to their home to practice with them. "The morning practice fee is covered by insurance, but the family has to pay for the afternoon practice. To have money to treat the children, I currently work as a security guard and earn 2 million VND/month, while the grandmother has to stay home to take care of the children. My son has been in the hospital with the third child for the past few months. My family is currently in a very difficult situation," said Mr. Nguyen Dinh Thang, Tuong's father.
Mrs. Tran Thi Phang, Secretary and Head of Phu Trieu Village, said that this is a particularly difficult situation in the locality when the children are continuously sick and have to go to the hospital for treatment. Since Mr. Tuong's wife passed away, departments, branches and organizations of Hai Duong City and Lien Hong Commune have provided some support to the family. Currently, Lien Hong Commune is preparing documents, requesting that Bao Han enjoy special disability benefits, then it will be Tuong Vy's turn.
