During the summer, many parents in Hai Duong have sent their children to extracurricular classes, life skills training, cooking, sports... with the motto "playing while learning" instead of studying culture like before.
Help your child practice skills
On the morning of June 17, the weather was quite hot, but Ms. Nguyen Thi San in Doan Tung Commune (Thanh Mien) was still willing to wait for several hours outside the Hai Duong Women's 8/3 Employment Service Center (Hai Duong City) to pick up her child and 8 other friends in the commune who were participating in a cooking class there. Knowing that the Hai Duong Women's 8/3 Employment Service Center organizes cooking courses for children, Ms. San and some parents in the commune decided to let their children attend the classes during the summer. Because they live far away, during the course, the women rented a car to pick them up and sent a parent along to take care of and supervise the children.
“By letting our children participate in this course, we do not expect them to be able to cook delicious meals, but only hope that they will be equipped with basic knowledge of cooking, be creative in preparing and presenting dishes, and help them have interesting experiences during the summer,” said Ms. San.
Nguyen Thanh Giang (13 years old, Doan Tung commune) was very happy when his mother let him join this course. “Today is the first day I was guided by the teachers on how to use a knife, trim vegetables, make sushi rolls, and chicken with shiitake mushroom sauce. We got to enjoy the dishes right away so we were very happy. After the class, the teachers guided me on how to wash the dishes, clean the kitchen and the practice room so I learned a lot more,” Giang said.
Mr. Nguyen Van Luyen's family in Pham Ngu Lao ward (Hai Duong city) has two sons, 13 and 11 years old. After a year of hard study, during the summer, Mr. Luyen and his wife do not want their children to study extra subjects but want them to have a fun and rewarding summer.
Mr. Luyen said: “After consulting with our children, my wife and I decided to register them for a taekwondo class at the Provincial Children's House. Although they have only studied for a few sessions, they still feel pain, but they are still excited and seem more confident and agile than before. If they have a need, I will let them study long-term and systematically.”
Because her daughter has a talent for art, before the summer break, Ms. Huong Ly in Binh Giang residential area (Pha Lai ward, Chi Linh city) researched and registered her daughter for a drawing course at the City Children's House. According to Ms. Ly, letting her daughter participate in this course helps her develop her talent, relax her mind and enjoy a relaxing, comfortable summer.
Multiple choices
In recent years, to meet the needs of parents, many units, organizations and unions in the province have organized summer classes with rich content such as: vocal music, painting, dancing, chess, table tennis, soccer, basketball, martial arts, cooking... with different study times and tuition fees.
Ms. Bui Thi Tuyet Lan, Deputy Director of Hai Duong Province Children's House, said that this summer, the unit will enroll 70 classes in 17 gifted subjects. Tuition for each subject is about 1.2 million VND/course. Some subjects are paid by the session. "The Children's House always tries to organize a variety of classes so that students have many choices. It is expected that this summer, the Children's House will attract over 2,000 teenagers and children aged 4-15 to participate in learning and activities. The unit also teaches 50 children in difficult circumstances for free," Ms. Lan said.
For the past 4 years, summer cooking classes organized by the Hai Duong Women's 8/3 Employment Service Center have always been overloaded. Ms. Nguyen Thanh Chung, Head of the Center's Administration Department, said that during the summer, the center organizes 4-5 cooking classes, each class has 20-24 students with a tuition fee of 1.2 million VND/student/class. During 8 sessions, students are instructed to cook 16-18 simple dishes for family meals. In the past 2 years, the center has also organized a knitting class, attracting a large number of children to participate.
In addition to talent classes and cooking classes, parents can also let their children participate in the “Military Semester” organized by the Hai Duong Provincial Youth Union or learn sports at the Hai Duong Sports Gymnasium. Some units organize courses for young robot engineers, English summer camps, experiential summer camps, etc.; organize camping trips for students to participate in experiences in other provinces and cities for 3-7 days with fees ranging from a few million to tens of millions of VND.
Summer skill courses meet the needs of parents and students. However, not all courses are necessary. Therefore, parents need to choose courses that are suitable for their children's age and interests, helping them have a truly rewarding and interesting summer.
