Japanese automaker Toyota has just announced a recall of more than 42,000 Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles related to a brake system defect in this SUV model.
Toyota recently issued a recall for a large number of Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles. Unlike some recent recalls by other automakers, this recall by Toyota is related to a potential problem with the braking system and stems from software issues.
Specifically, the problem occurs with the software in the electronic control unit (ECU) that controls the skid, which can lead to a loss of brake assist when the vehicle is cornering, causing the driver to experience a hard brake pedal, making the braking distance longer and increasing the risk of a collision.
Other Toyota vehicles have similar braking systems. However, the automaker has not yet confirmed whether the brake booster issue affects other vehicles.
To address this issue, Toyota will provide a free software update to affected vehicles. The recall affects 42,199 Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles manufactured between June 1, 2022 and September 10, 2024.
Owners of affected Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid vehicles should take their vehicles to their dealers for a software update to avoid the risk of accidents due to not being able to stop the vehicle in time.
