Tesla recalls more than 46,000 Cybertruck electric pickup trucks due to the risk of the roof panel detaching while the vehicle is running, posing a potential accident risk.

According to Tesla's filing with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this recall affects more than 46,000 vehicles manufactured between November 2023 and February 2025. This is also the production period of most Cybertruck models currently on the US market.

Tesla said the problem stems from a stainless steel panel on the outside that connects the A-pillar next to the windshield to the roof. This part is at risk of detaching while the car is moving, potentially causing an accident. To fix it, the company will replace the entire faulty panel assembly with a new, more durable part.

Previously, the Cybertruck was recalled 7 times in 2024 alone for various problems. Tesla also tops the list of automakers with the most recalls in the US, with 5.1 million cases. However, most of Tesla's previous problems can be fixed through remote software updates.

NHTSA previously received complaints from several owners on February 21 about the panels detaching. Tesla said it had received 151 warranty complaints related to the issue, but no accidents or injuries had been reported.

The Cybertruck recall, the biggest yet, has added to the pressure on Tesla, whose stock has lost nearly 50% of its value since the start of the year, partly due to controversy surrounding Elon Musk’s new role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
