Lexus LX600 recalled to fix automatic transmission issue

On March 22, Toyota Vietnam (TMV) officially announced the recall of two models, Land Cruiser 300 and Lexus LX600, to update the automatic transmission control software.

Accordingly, the number of affected vehicles is 1,325, including 930 Land Cruiser 300 vehicles with model number VJA300L-GNUVZW manufactured from May 11, 2021 to January 9, 2024 and 395 Lexus LX600 vehicles with model number VJA310L-GKULZW manufactured from August 2, 2021 to December 25, 2023.

According to information from TMV, the transmission assembly on the affected vehicles uses a clutch piston to press the clutch friction plates against the steel plates, transmitting power from the engine to the wheels. When the transmission is shifted to the neutral position and the pressure is removed from the clutch piston, there is a possibility that the clutch friction plates may not immediately separate from the steel plates, allowing some engine power to continue to be transmitted to the wheels.

When this condition occurs while the vehicle is on a level surface and if the driver does not apply the brake pedal or use the parking brake, the vehicle may move forward at a low speed (up to 6.4 km/h). This may increase the risk of an accident.

Toyota Vietnam said the program is expected to start from March 22, 2024 at Toyota dealers nationwide. Customers with affected vehicles will receive a notice from the dealer inviting them to bring their vehicles in for inspection.

Based on the test results, the customer's vehicle will be updated with the transmission control software completely free of charge. The estimated time for testing and repair/update is about 30 minutes/vehicle.

For Toyota/Lexus vehicles imported without official permission that are affected by this program, upon receiving a request from the owner, the company will check the detailed information. After the problem is confirmed and approved, Toyota and Lexus dealers will conduct a free inspection and update for customers.
