Low rate of university admission candidates, what does the Ministry of Education and Training say?

Only nearly 390,000 candidates have registered for university admission on the general admission system of the Ministry of Education and Training. This number makes the Ministry of Education and Training worried because candidates may misunderstand that they have been admitted through the early admission method.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), said that as of July 22, only nearly 390,000 candidates had registered for admission on the general admission system of the MOET, reaching 37%. This rate is low compared to previous years.

Only nearly 390,000 candidates have registered for admission on the Ministry of Education and Training's general admission system as of July 22.

"We are a bit worried because students may be wondering, but we do not rule out the possibility that candidates still misunderstand after being admitted through the early admission method and think that they do not need to register on the system," shared the Director of the Department of Higher Education.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy also affirmed that in order to be admitted to any university or any major, candidates must register on the Ministry’s common system. This is mandatory, so candidates and parents need to pay special attention.

Candidates who have been admitted through the early admission method but do not register their eligible admission wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training's admission system will lose their chance of being admitted.

"Candidates who have received early admission notices need to register for that admission wish on the Ministry's common system. Candidates who prioritize their first wish which is the same as their admitted wish will definitely be confirmed by the system," said Ms. Thuy.

Candidates can register for an unlimited number of wishes, but they need to consider the order and always remember the principle of putting their favorite and most desired wish as wish 1 because each candidate is only admitted to 1 highest wish.

It is necessary to consider the industry/school before registering, but each candidate needs to be proactive and should not wait until the last day or last hour to access the system because delays can easily occur due to objective reasons.

To limit risks, candidates should not register too few or too many wishes. Currently, the number of candidates registering only one wish on the system is quite large, up to 72,000 candidates.

At the "Choosing a Wish" Festival organized by the Ministry of Education and Training, Tuoi Tre newspaper and Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ms. Thuy said that this shows the confidence of candidates, however, this should not be done because registering one wish has many potential risks because after that, schools still have to do post-inspection and review specific conditions.

On the contrary, candidates do not need to register too many wishes because it is wasteful. Candidates need to learn and carefully study the admission plans of the schools; have a strategy to allocate wishes to appropriate groups of majors to ensure the highest chance of being admitted.

In response to concerns about whether there is any priority for the candidate with the first choice over the candidate with the tenth choice in the case of two students applying for the same major at the same university, Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy affirmed that there is no priority. The candidate with the higher score will be admitted.

"In case two candidates have the same score, the school does not have any additional criteria to classify, for example, if the Math or Literature score is higher, both candidates will be accepted at the same time. The order of preferences is not a prerequisite to give priority to other candidates. The admission process will be carried out from high to low until the quota is full" - Ms. Thuy emphasized.

"The order of preferences is only meaningful to candidates, because the admission system will run a virtual filter. If a candidate is admitted to a preference, the system will stop at that preference. Therefore, candidates need to pay attention to placing their preferences first," said the Director of the Department of Higher Education.
