Hanoi National University Aptitude Test (HSA)
According to information from Hanoi National University, in 2025, the school's capacity assessment exam will have many new points compared to previous years, from the exam structure, number of questions and how to ask questions in each topic to the exam registration schedule.
Specifically, the HSA exam structure in 2025 consists of three parts, of which two are compulsory: Mathematics and Data Processing, Literature - Language. The questions in the HSA exam are about 75% objective multiple choice questions with 4 options and 25% fill-in-the-blank questions.
If last year, cluster questions only appeared in the language test, from 2025, the Hanoi National University's competency assessment test will add cluster questions in all test sections and exam topics. Cluster questions include general topics and specific questions that develop and assess candidates' competencies from low to high levels.
Cluster questions will exploit rich data sources, assessing students' thinking in each field and across fields. These are changes in building a question bank for competency assessment exams. Especially in 2025, questions in the HSA exam will not be arranged from easy to difficult but will be randomly shuffled according to a fixed matrix.
The HSA 2025 exam will consist of 6 sessions, starting from March, with an expected number of 85,000 test takers. Regarding the location, the exam will take place in many provinces and cities such as Hanoi, Thai Nguyen, Hai Phong, Nam Dinh, Hung Yen, Hai Duong, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Ha Tinh, Da Nang... The exam locations for each session will be announced later.
This is one of the largest private exams in the country. About 90 universities use this exam for admission.
Ho Chi Minh City National University Aptitude Test (V-ACT)
The 2025 Ho Chi Minh City National University Competency Assessment Test still includes 120 multiple-choice objective questions with 150 minutes of paper-based testing, but has been adjusted to suit the new general education program.
The 2025 competency assessment test of Ho Chi Minh City National University has many similarities with international standardized tests such as SAT (USA), PET (Israel) or GAT (Thailand). The test aims to assess students' general ability, helping universities and colleges recruit suitable candidates.
The V-ACT exam consists of three parts: The Logic - Data Analysis and Problem Solving sections from previous years are combined into Scientific Thinking with 30 multiple choice questions. The questions are structured in the direction of providing information, data, facts, from which candidates are required to apply, determine experimental results, predict laws... The Language Use section includes Vietnamese and English with 60 questions instead of 40 questions as before. Finally, there is the Math section with 30 questions.
This is the largest exam in the country, with nearly 107,000 candidates participating last year. More than 100 schools use these results for admission. In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City National University will continue to organize the exam with two sessions scheduled on March 30 and June 1 in 25 provinces/cities.
Hanoi University of Science and Technology Thinking Assessment (TSA)
In 2025, Hanoi University of Science and Technology plans to organize 3 rounds of thinking assessment exams on weekends, each round will have 3-4 teams at 30 locations. The exam can accommodate about 75,000 exams, specific information for each round is as follows:
Round 1: Exam date 18-19/1/2025, registration opening date 1-6/12/2024
Round 2: Exam date 8-9/3/2025, registration opening date 1-6/2/2025
Round 3: Exam date 26-27/4/2025, registration opening date 1-6/4/2025
Thus, compared to last year, in 2025, the TSA exam of Hanoi University of Science and Technology will be reduced by 3 sessions.
In addition to the previous testing sites, in 2025, Hanoi University of Science and Technology will open a new testing site to support students in the Northwestern provinces (test site in Lao Cai province).
Regarding the exam structure, Hanoi University of Science and Technology maintained stability with three parts: Mathematical Thinking (60 minutes), Reading Comprehension (30 minutes) and Scientific Thinking/Problem Solving (60 minutes). These are three independent exam parts, the questions focus on assessing the thinking ability of the candidates, not directly testing the knowledge of any subject.
The TSA test is a computer-based test, and the results are valid for 2 years for university admission purposes (depending on the school).
Hanoi National University of Education Aptitude Test
Hanoi National University of Education organizes the 2025 competency assessment exam with the subjects: Mathematics, Literature, English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography and uses the exam results to register for admission to regular university training programs according to the requirements of each university. Candidates take the exam directly on paper.
The content of the exams corresponds to the content of high school subjects and exams; in accordance with the 2018 general education program and the teaching, testing and assessment orientation of the Ministry of Education and Training.
According to the school's latest announcement, the 2025 competency assessment exam will take place on May 17-18, 2025. The exam scores will be announced before June 15, 2025. The school also noted that from 2026, the exam is expected to add the subjects of Economic and Legal Education, Information Technology, and Technology.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Education Competency Assessment Test
In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education plans to organize many competency assessment exams in Ho Chi Minh City, Long An, Da Nang, Gia Lai. The exam will include 6 independent tests: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature, English. Of which, the Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology exam consists of 40 questions, divided into three parts, instead of 50 questions with two parts as before.
For Literature, the test consists of 22 questions in three parts: reading comprehension (multiple choice); writing a short paragraph; essay. The writing a short paragraph is new content compared to previous years. For English, the test structure remains the same, including four parts: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The materials are taken from many different fields. The test content will closely follow the 2018 general education program, in which the knowledge of grade 12 accounts for about 70-80%, the rest is knowledge of grades 10 and 11.
