How is the university admission score conversion formula calculated?

From 2025, universities will still be allowed to use many admission methods, but must consider them together with graduation exam scores, and convert scores between methods and combinations to a common scale.

Like at Hanoi University of Science and Technology last year, the thinking assessment exam was calculated on a 100-point scale, the talent admission exam was calculated on a 110-point scale, and the high school graduation exam score was calculated on a 30-point scale, so this year it must be converted to the same scale.

The Ministry of Education and Training requires that the conversion must be simple, easy to understand, and convenient for application. In which, schools use high school graduation exam score data or high school learning results as the basis for developing conversion rules.

The schools then analyze statistical data on the number of candidates admitted by each method (at least 2 consecutive previous years) and the academic results of each student.

From the correlation between university learning outcomes and the score distribution of the same group of candidates; the threshold to ensure input quality (floor score) to the maximum level of the scoring scale, schools must determine at least 3 score ranges (for example, excellent - good, fair, pass), from which to build at least 3 linear correlation functions (3 first-order functions) for these score ranges.

Based on the above plan, at the same time, based on the standard rules announced by the Ministry of Education and Training after the high school graduation exam scores are available, based on the specific characteristics of the training program and major, the university will complete the conversion rules.

Below is an example of equivalent conversion of admission scores between the method of considering thinking assessment test scores (ĐGTD) and based on high school graduation exam results.

University admissions in 2025 will have many changes, according to regulations issued by the Ministry of Education and Training on March 21. The requirement for schools to stop early admission and convert equivalent scores between methods has the most impact.

Currently, many schools have collected and analyzed data to build sample formulas, while waiting for 2025 high school graduation exam score data.

Although there will be many calculations, schools all emphasize that candidates should not worry about converting scores.
