Adoption of the Agenda of the 42nd AIPA General Assembly

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and National Assembly leaders attend the opening ceremony of the 42nd AIPA General Assembly

On the morning of August 23, after attending the opening session of the 42nd General Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (AIPA-42), National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and the Vietnamese National Assembly delegation attended the first plenary session of AIPA-42.

AIPA President, President of the Legislative Council of Brunei Darussalam, Abdul Rahman Taib Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela chaired the Session.

Attending the meeting were the Secretary General of AIPA, ASEAN; Heads of delegations of observer parliamentarians: Australia, Belarus, Canada, India, South Korea, Morocco, Norway, Russian Federation, Timor Leste and the European Parliament; and guests from the host country: representatives of Myanmar, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, and the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum.

Declaring the opening of the Session, AIPA President, President of the Legislative Council of Brunei Darussalam, Abdul Rahman Taib Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela welcomed AIPA members and observer delegations to the First Plenary Session of the 42nd AIPA General Assembly.

In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, AIPA President and President of the Legislative Council of Brunei Darussalam expressed his pleasure to see that the spirit of ASEAN's friendly cooperation remains a prominent factor and helps the parliaments of member countries to organize the General Assembly online.

AIPA President, President of the Legislative Council of Brunei Darussalam, Abdul Rahman Taib Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela said that in preparation for the First Plenary Session, the host country Brunei and the AIPA Secretariat had previously sent to the parliaments of member countries nominations for the Vice President of the AIPA-42 General Assembly; the expected Program of Activities and Agenda of AIPA-42; and the participants of the AIPA-42 Committees.

On that basis, AIPA President Abdul Rahman Taib Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Lela chaired the Session to discuss and adopt the above documents.

According to the program, the 42nd AIPA General Assembly is expected to continue its first plenary session in the afternoon of the same day, listening to speeches from heads of delegations of member countries, observers, guests and the Secretary General of AIPA and ASEAN.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, Head of the Vietnamese National Assembly Delegation to the 42nd AIPA General Assembly, will deliver an important speech at the session.
