Le Van Duy Khanh was discovered by police hiding in the forest 4 days after breaking through a wall to escape from the detention house of Thuan Bac District Police, Ninh Thuan.
Ninh Thuan police said that on the morning of February 15, detectives surrounded and captured Khanh in Ta No forest, Phuoc Ha commune, Thuan Nam district - about 60 km from where he escaped.
Khanh (34 years old, residing in Ba Ria - Vung Tau) is a defendant in the case of illegal drug trafficking, detained at the Ninh Thuan Police Detention Center, then transferred to the Thuan Bac District Police Detention Center since last year.
At noon on February 11, he broke through the wall in the sunbathing area, escaped from his cell, and then climbed over the fence from behind the security area to escape. Khanh then stole a motorbike from a local resident to get around. The incident was discovered by detention center staff early in the afternoon of the same day.
Ninh Thuan police mobilized hundreds of officers and soldiers to search for Khanh on a large scale for many days and nights.
Over the past four days, Khanh has traveled many routes from Thuan Bac district to the south, then up to the remote mountainous area of Thuan Nam district, bordering Binh Thuan.
Early this morning, the police determined that he was hiding in the forest above Tan Giang irrigation lake, Phuoc Ha commune, so they coordinated with local police to surround and block all crossroads, shortcuts, and trails into the forest. When Khanh was discovered, the detectives rushed in to control and escort him to the investigation agency.
