Swedish car brand Volvo has just revealed the electric version of its S90 sedan, called the ES90. This is Volvo's first model to use 800V electrical architecture.
With 800V technology, the ES90 supports DC fast charging. According to the company's statement, the ES90 can increase its operating range by 300 km in just 10 minutes from a 350 kW charger. In addition, with new battery management software and hardware, the ES90 has an operating range of up to 700 km with a fully charged battery according to the WLTP standard.
If charged according to CLTC standard, the ES90's operating range is 740 km for the 4-wheel drive variant with two electric motors and a 106 kWh battery pack.
Volvo says its 800V powertrain includes lighter electric motors and other components to reduce the overall weight of the vehicle, which should help increase acceleration and range. New management software also cuts the ES90's charging time from 10 to 80 percent to 30 percent, to just 20 minutes.
The ES90's design is inspired by its big brother, the S90. The electric sedan adds LEDs to the rear windows, complementing the traditional main taillights. The roof is made of glass, with hidden door handles and a LiDar mounted on top. The front end will resemble the EX90, with Volvo's signature LED headlights.
The system supports AI-based active safety features and sensors. The ES90 is equipped with LiDar with 5 radars, 8 cameras and 12 ultrasonic sensors.
As planned, Volvo ES90 will be launched globally on March 5.
