Prosecuted 37 subjects in the drug ring led by Vu Hoang Oanh

According to Major General Nguyen Van Vien, the total amount of drugs the defendants transported, bought, sold, and consumed was 1.6 tons, including heroin, ketamine, and methamphetamine from Cambodia to Vietnam for domestic consumption and for export. One of the subjects arrested in this drug ring was Pham Cong Gian, born in 1958, the brother-in-law of Vu Hoang Oanh, when the subject was hiding at the Moc Bai border gate, Tay Ninh province. Pham Cong Gian played an effective role in the drug crime ring led by Vu Hoang Oanh.

During the investigation, Department C04 clarified the method of Vu Hoang Oanh and his accomplices. The subjects hid drugs in used car engine blocks, then hired people to transport them from abroad to Ho Chi Minh City. At the warehouse, the group disassembled the engine blocks to get the drugs and then delivered them to wholesale customers.

The ringleaders also took advantage of the development of science and technology to operate their gangs in the drug trafficking and transportation network abroad and in the country. The drug lord used social networks, especially social networks with servers located in a third country, with high security such as Facebook, Zalo, Instagram, Viber, Telegram...; SIM cards with phone numbers abroad to connect globally, in order to not leave any traces of the crime. Currently, the case is being further investigated - Major General Nguyen Van Vien said.

Previously, in May 2018, the Ministry of Public Security successfully dismantled Project 128Y led by "Oanh Ha", seizing 74 kg of drugs. However, this subject fled abroad. Department C04 issued a special wanted decision for the subject for the crime of Illegal drug trafficking and had an international arrest warrant from Interpol. Abroad, Vu Hoang Oanh recruited many wanted subjects and key subjects to form a drug trafficking line from the "Golden Triangle" area to Ho Chi Minh City and Hai Phong for consumption.

In September 2022, in Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City, Department C04, Ministry of Public Security coordinated with functional forces to arrest Nguyen Thanh Thang red-handed for illegally transporting drugs. Expanding the investigation, the functional forces arrested and searched 8 locations in Ho Chi Minh City, Long An, Hanoi, and Hai Phong. In particular, the Investigation Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security coordinated with the competent authorities of neighboring countries to arrest Vu Hoang Oanh and Nguyen Ngoc Son, two especially wanted and internationally wanted subjects.

The Department of Investigation Police on Drug-related Crimes said: In the first 6 months of 2023, the situation of illegal production, trading, transportation and use of drugs, especially synthetic drugs in Southeast Asia, is serious and tends to increase, posing many challenges and difficulties for drug prevention and control work in our country.

Since the beginning of 2023, the National Drug Crime Investigation Police force has coordinated with functional forces to successfully combat and solve more than 13,000 cases, arrest more than 20,000 suspects, seize more than 312 kg of heroin, more than 1.6 tons and nearly 828,000 synthetic drug pills...; Prosecuted more than 11,000 cases, more than 16,000 defendants; Arrested, persuaded to surrender, and eliminated 186 wanted drug suspects.
