According to the accusation, Ms. Truong My Lan and her accomplices issued 25 packages of fake bonds, with a total value of more than 30,869 billion VND, without collateral, and sold them to investors. Up to now, there is an outstanding debt of more than 30,081 billion VND from more than 35,000 investors, with no ability to pay. This act of defendant Lan was prosecuted by the Procuracy for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

Previously, in phase 1, defendant Truong My Lan was sentenced to death by the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City for the crime of "embezzlement of property", 20 years in prison for the crime of "bribery" and 20 years in prison for the crime of "violating regulations on lending in the activities of credit institutions". The total sentence is death.

In this case, a total of 34 defendants were prosecuted for three crimes: “Fraudulent appropriation of property”, “Money laundering”, and “Illegal transportation of currency across borders”. Many defendants were prosecuted and tried for 2-3 crimes at the same time.

Nearly 100 lawyers defended the defendants, protected the legal rights and interests of the people involved and the victims attending the trial. Of these, Ms. Lan alone had 4 lawyers.

Hundreds of seats, large screens, and a tent were installed in the courtyard of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court for those attending the trial to watch outside the courtroom. About 530 organizations and individuals were summoned as people with related rights and obligations.

Authorities only allow people with summonses to enter the court.

Security was tight throughout the trial.

The trial is scheduled to last for 1 month (from September 19 to October 19). Judge Nguyen Thi Ha will preside over the trial. The panel of judges will also include Judge Vu Hoai Nam; alternate judges Nguyen Van Ha and Pham Viet Hung; three people's jurors Nguyen Dinh Cuong, Tran Ngoc Thuc and Bui Quang Viet; alternate people's jurors Thi Thi Tuyet Nhung and Le Giao.
