The simulation exercise scene found some network systems showing signs of instability in a technology company.
The defense team scans and checks the system to detect malware and unauthorized system intrusion.
On the morning of March 24, at the Eastern Cultural Center, the Department of Information and Communications of Hai Duong presided over and coordinated with Viettel Cyber Security Company to organize a practical exercise to ensure network information security in 2023. This is the second time the province has organized a cyber security exercise in the form of practical attack-defense in cyberspace.
The drill conference has the theme: “Handling public application attacks”. This is one of the activities within the framework of events to celebrate the Provincial Digital Transformation Day on March 26, 2023.
With the guidance of cybersecurity experts from Viettel Cyber Security, the officers participating in the exercise were divided into two teams: the incident response team (blue team) and the attack team (red team). Thereby, they recreated security incidents on a system consisting of many components, applications, servers, and workstations.
Director of Department of Information and Communications and Director of Viettel Hai Duong awarded certificates to teams participating in the exercise.
The scenario of the exercise was a simulation of a technology company. Recently, some network systems were found to be unstable (emails were difficult to access, applications and websites could not be accessed even during non-peak hours, some system security warnings were generated, etc.). After detecting the abnormal signs, the company locked some features of the network system to detect and scan for incidents. The two exercise teams set up realistic attack targets, deployed solutions to scan for malware to respond immediately.
Cyber security drills do not have a pre-determined scenario but are limited in terms of objectives, participants, tools used, level of exploitation, and duration to minimize risks to the system.
Through cyber security drills to assess information security protection capacity, readiness to prevent, handle and respond to cyber attacks. Detect existing weaknesses and loopholes in technology, processes and personnel to promptly handle and propose future improvements appropriate to resources.
According to statistics from the Department of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communications), since the beginning of the year, the unit has recorded, warned and provided instructions on handling nearly 1,700 cyber attacks causing incidents targeting information systems in Vietnam, an increase of 33.9% over the same period in 2022.
