Russian antivirus software maker Kaspersky Lab is moving toward ending its operations in the United States after receiving a ban on selling its products in the market, the company said on July 15.
According to the company's statement, Kaspersky Lab in the US will begin to cease business operations on July 20. From that date, Kaspersky will close all stores and offices in the US. Consumers will also not be able to purchase Kaspersky Lab products on online platforms because "services cannot be performed in the US".
Kaspersky Lab’s decision comes after US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo announced on June 20 restrictions on Kaspersky’s anti-virus software in the country, citing security concerns. The US bans the download of updates, resale, and licensing of Kaspersky Lab products, effective September 29.
Kaspersky's new business operations in the US will also be suspended for 30 days after the ban is announced.
Last June, the US government also imposed sanctions on senior Kaspersky executives for security reasons.
