Filip Nguyen officially receives Vietnamese citizenship

Filip Nguyen officially became a Vietnamese citizen after receiving the decision from the President. Witnessing the ceremony were Filip Nguyen's wife, son, father and some relatives such as lawyers and friends.

Filip Nguyen said: "I am very happy to be a son of Vietnam. I would like to thank President Vo Van Thuong, leaders of ministries, departments, the Czech Embassy, ​​the Hanoi Police Club and the Vietnam Football Federation. I promise to do my best to contribute to my homeland."

Filip Nguyen will take the name "Nguyen Filip" in Vietnamese nationality. He was born in 1992 in the Czech Republic, his father is from Hai Phong, his mother is Czech. His wife is also a Vietnamese expatriate and has Vietnamese nationality.

Filip Nguyen has been called up to the Czech national team many times but has not played a single match.

After playing for Hanoi Police Club in V-League in June 2023, Filip Nguyen is eligible to obtain Vietnamese citizenship.

He can play for the Vietnamese team if he is called up by coach Philippe Troussier in the next training session to prepare for the 2023 Asian Cup in Qatar early this year.

It took Filip Nguyen nearly 10 years to complete the procedures to apply for citizenship. His father, Mr. Nguyen Minh, was an influential person and contributed greatly to guiding his son back to his homeland and roots.

Previously, coach Philippe Troussier waited until the last minute to include Filip Nguyen in the preliminary list of 50 players registered for the 2023 Asian Cup.
