The grass of My Dinh Stadium is rough and patchy.

"The reason for Ly Duc's injury was the pitch," coach Le Quang Trai said at a press conference after the match between The Cong Viettel and Hoang Anh Gia Lai in the National Cup quarterfinals on the evening of March 30. Pham Ly Duc - the player who was just called up to the Vietnam national team by coach Kim Sang-sik in the most recent training session - left the field on a stretcher in the second half.

The defender's injury originated from a situation where he was tackling the ball. However, the landing position was not favorable, causing Ly Duc to be in pain. Coach Le Quang Trai said that the bad grass at My Dinh Stadium was the main reason for the Hoang Anh Gia Lai player's injury.

"The doctors responded that the injury was serious. He was injured when he tackled the ball. The pitch was not suitable for a match. Dinh Lam's injury was also due to the poor quality of the pitch," said the head coach of Hoang Anh Gia Lai.

The My Dinh Stadium turf has been frequently criticized in recent years. Before the match between The Cong Viettel and Hoang Anh Gia Lai on the evening of March 30, fans expressed their concerns about the quality of the pitch through images posted on social media. In fact, during the match, spectators watching live at the stadium as well as on television could clearly see that the players had to play on a patchy, uneven pitch.

"We don't have much time to change. Our playing style is like that, on this field you can see why there are many wrong passes," said coach Le Quang Trai.

Not only members of Hoang Anh Gia Lai, representatives of The Cong Viettel - the home team - also complained about the pitch. Coach Nguyen Duc Thang commented: "My Dinh Stadium is really bad, affecting both teams. We had to change our tactics. Controlling the ball on the rough pitch is really difficult."
