Goalkeeper Filip Nguyen has Vietnamese nationality.

The goalkeeper of the Hanoi Police will have the name Nguyen Filip in Vietnamese nationality, instead of Filip Nguyen as in his birth name in the Czech Republic.

On the pageFacebookOn the evening of December 6, Nguyen Filip also posted an announcement that he had become a Vietnamese citizen, and thanked fans for their support.

With his citizenship, Nguyen Filip is likely to be called up to the Vietnam national team by coach Philippe Troussier in the upcoming national team training session. In the immediate future, the 31-year-old goalkeeper may be registered in the preliminary list for the 2023 Asian Cup taking place in January 2024, because the deadline for submitting this preliminary list is December 12.

Filip Nguyen was born on September 14, 1992 in the Czech Republic, to an Eastern European mother and a Vietnamese father. He started out at the academy and played for the first team of Sparta Prague, before moving to Bydzov, Vlasim, Slova Liberec and Slovacko. Filip Nguyen was voted the best goalkeeper of the 2018-2019 Czech National Championship by the Czech Professional Football League Association.

Nguyen Filip once expressed his desire to play for the Vietnamese national team but it was not successful because he did not have Vietnamese nationality due to not having enough time to live in Vietnam. Having played for the Hanoi Police since the middle of the 2023 season, Nguyen Filip has spoken Vietnamese well. Relevant agencies have also made efforts to support and help him obtain Vietnamese nationality. His wife and son already had Vietnamese nationality.

Nguyen Filip was once called up to the Czech Republic national team, but because he has not played yet, he is fully qualified to play for the Vietnamese national team. Coach Philippe Troussier himself also likes this player very much, he has come to the stadium many times to watch him play for Hanoi Police and regularly exchanges information with Nguyen Filip.
