From 2025, the structure and questions of high school graduation exams will have many innovations, requiring changes in teaching and learning.

Teachers and 12th grade students in Hai Duong are trying to overcome difficulties and adapt to the innovation of the 2025 high school graduation illustration exam.

From 2025, for the first time, 12th graders will take the high school graduation exam according to the new 2018 general education program. The Ministry of Education and Training has announced 18 sample exam questions for the 2025 high school graduation exam. The exam structure has many innovations.

According to some 12th grade teachers in Hai Duong, the structure and sample exam questions for the 2025 high school graduation exam have many innovations. These innovations are consistent with reality and meet the requirements of the 2018 general education program.

Accordingly, in addition to form 1, which is multiple choice questions that have been applied for many years, the sample test has 2 new question forms. These are true/false multiple choice questions and short answer multiple choice questions.

The exam has significantly reduced the calculation factor compared to the previous exam trend, requiring students to clearly understand the nature, enhance the assessment of reading comprehension, analytical thinking and problem solving. The exam will have more practical application questions than before; the differentiation is much higher than before. This innovation limits the situation of students memorizing, guessing questions, and randomly circling answers.

However, this innovation will cause not only students but also most teachers to face many difficulties. The first difficulty is that teachers are forced to innovate their teaching methods. Teachers no longer only teach using traditional methods, presentations, and questions and answers as before, but teachers must have interdisciplinary knowledge and practical knowledge of social life. And the most difficult thing is that teachers must teach students to use subject knowledge to solve practical problems.

Another difficulty that teachers are facing is finding teaching materials that meet the requirements of the exam. Currently, teachers' sources of materials are mainly in textbooks and exercise books. The application of information technology to find materials and teaching is still limited. Especially in literature, the exam does not use materials from textbooks, so teachers must find rich sources of materials to teach students.

According to some of these teachers, to have a rich source of documents and update new knowledge, teachers need to join professional groups nationwide and participate in the projects of those groups.

Teachers are also struggling to innovate testing and evaluating students in the direction of solving practical problems; building matrices and question banks according to new structures and exam formats to train students' thinking and test-taking skills according to new question formats.

Another difficulty is that teachers will have a hard time teaching and preparing students to meet all three exams, including: high school graduation exam, competency assessment exam and thinking assessment exam.

These teachers also commented that the new structure and sample exam questions have a positive aspect in improving the professional quality of the teaching staff. Teachers are forced to innovate, be creative, and think to adapt or they will be left behind. Similarly, students will also have to learn in the direction of developing their abilities and thinking, limiting passive learning.
