Hanoi University of Science and Technology established the School of Economics, as its 6th member school.
The decision was announced on the morning of August 2, based on the reorganization of the Institute of Economics and Management. Previously, this university had the School of Chemistry and Life Sciences, Materials (established in March 2023), Mechanics, Electricity - Electronics, Information Technology and Communications (October 2021).
Associate Professor Nguyen Danh Nguyen, former Director of the Institute of Economics and Management, holds the position of principal of the new school.
Associate Professor Huynh Quyet Thang, Director of Hanoi University of Science and Technology, affirmed that this is not just a name change but a big difference in development model and aspiration to rise up and innovate. Although developing in many fields and disciplines, this university still takes technology and engineering as its core.
In December 2022, Hanoi University of Science and Technology became Hanoi University of Science and Technology according to the Government's decision, the 6th university in Vietnam (the previous 5 universities included Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Thai Nguyen University, Hue University, Da Nang University).
According to the 2018 Law on Higher Education, universities and colleges are two different concepts. Universities and colleges are training and research institutions in many fields. Universities train and research in many fields, including member universities and faculties.
Each year, Hanoi University of Science and Technology enrolls about 8,000-9,000 full-time students, with a total undergraduate and graduate population of about 40,000 students, trainees and postgraduates.
The field of Economics began training here in 1965, with the Faculty of Economic Engineering. In 2011, the school established the Institute of Economics and Management, which is now the School of Economics. To date, this unit has trained more than 10,000 engineers, bachelors; 7,000 masters and 50 doctors.
In addition to the School of Economics, Hanoi University of Science and Technology also announced the establishment of the Institute of Health Science and Technology (formerly the Center for Biomedical Electronics); Institute of Control and Automation Technology (formerly the Institute of Control Engineering and Automation); Institute of Energy Technology (formerly the Institute of Refrigeration Science and Technology); and Institute of Space and Underwater Technology Research.
