From the 2024-2025 school year, there will no longer be classifications of excellent, average, weak, poor academic performance or the title of advanced student.

No more classification of good, average, weak, poor academic performance

In the 2024-2025 school year, the 2018 General Education Program will be applied to grades 5, 9, and 12. This is the 5th and final year that the entire sector has implemented the new program and new textbooks for all levels of education.

Thus, Circular No. 26/2020/TT-BGDDT amending and supplementing the Regulations on assessment and classification of junior high school students and high school students issued with Circular No. 58/2011/TT-BGDDT dated December 12, 2011 of the Minister of Education and Training is no longer effective.

From the 2021-2022 school year, when implementing the 2018 General Education Program, student assessment and classification will be carried out according to the instructions of Circular 22/2021/TT-BGDDT issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.

Circular 22 takes effect from September 5, 2021 and will be implemented according to the following roadmap: From the 2021-2022 school year for grade 6; from the 2022-2023 school year for grades 7 and 10; from the 2023-2024 school year for grades 8 and 11; from the 2024-2025 school year for grades 9 and 12.

According to Circular 22, for subjects assessed by comments, there will be 2 levels: Passed, not passed; subjects assessed by comments combined with assessment by scores will be assessed according to one of four levels: Good, Fair, Passed, not passed.

In previous school years, when schools taught both the 2006 General Education Program and the 2018 General Education Program, the classification was carried out simultaneously according to Circular 22 and Circular 26, and there were still levels of academic performance: Excellent, average, weak, and poor.

However, starting from the 2024-2025 school year, the 2018 General Education Program has been applied uniformly to all grades, and the names in the student academic classification must also change to be consistent with the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training.

Remove the title of advanced student

Not only has there been a change in the academic ranking, but the academic title of junior high and high school students from this school year will no longer include the title of advanced student.

From this school year, the academic title will only be the title of excellent student for students whose training results for the whole school year are assessed as good, whose academic results for the whole school year are assessed as good, and who have at least 6 subjects assessed by comments combined with assessment by scores with an average score for the whole year of 9.0 points or higher.

The title of excellent student is given to students whose training results for the whole school year are assessed as good and whose learning results for the whole school year are assessed as good.

In addition, students are also rewarded by the school principal when they have outstanding achievements in training and studying during the school year. Or, students with special achievements are considered by the school and recommended for rewards by superiors.
