A tropical depression has formed in the East Sea and is moving slowly to the Northwest, with the strongest wind near the center of the depression at level 6, gusting to level 8.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on the morning of February 12, the low pressure area in the central East Sea strengthened into a tropical depression.
At 7:00 a.m., the center of the tropical depression was at about 12 degrees North latitude, 112.5 degrees East longitude, in the northwest area of Truong Sa archipelago.
The tropical depression moves slowly to the Northwest at a speed of about 5 km/h, the strongest wind near the center of the depression is level 6 (39-49 km/h), gusting to level 8.
In the next 24 hours, the tropical depression will maintain its direction and continue to move slowly at 5 km/h. At 7:00 a.m. on February 13, the center of the tropical depression was over the western sea area of the central East Sea with the strongest wind speed of level 6, gusting to 8.
Still maintaining the direction and speed of movement for the next 24 hours, at 7:00 a.m. on February 14, the center of the tropical depression was over the offshore waters from Binh Dinh to Ninh Thuan.
In the next 48-72 hours, the tropical depression will move slowly in the North-Northwest direction and gradually weaken.
The meteorological agency warned that the impact of the tropical depression will cause showers and thunderstorms in the western sea area between the East Sea and the southwestern sea area of the North East Sea, and offshore waters from Phu Yen to Ninh Thuan, with strong winds of level 6, gusts of level 8, and rough seas.
The western sea area of the area between the East Sea and the southwestern sea area of the northern East Sea area (including the sea area of the Hoang Sa archipelago) has waves 2-3.5 m high.
From February 14, the offshore sea area from Thua Thien - Hue to Binh Dinh has waves 2-3 m high.
On the evening of February 11, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development sent an official dispatch to coastal provinces and cities from Binh Dinh to Kien Giang, requesting proactive response to the low pressure area in the East Sea that is likely to strengthen into a tropical depression.
Accordingly, the ministry recommends that provinces and cities closely monitor news bulletins and notify captains and owners of vehicles and vessels operating at sea to proactively prevent and have appropriate production plans to ensure safety of people and property.
At the same time, maintain communication to promptly handle possible bad situations and prepare forces and means to deploy rescue work when there is a situation.
