Components for the iPhone SE 4, Apple's low-cost smartphone, are being mass produced in preparation for its expected launch early next year.
Technology site PhoneArena quoted an internal source saying that LG Innotek, one of Apple's camera suppliers, has started producing the camera module for the iPhone SE 4.
Since LG typically stocks components about three months before the official product launch, the iPhone SE 4 is likely to launch on March 21, 2025. Apple last announced the iPhone SE on March 18, 2022.
Apple typically releases a lower-cost model every few years, which is believed to save on component costs and keep the price of the iPhone SE low. While the new iPhone starts at $799, the SE is typically sold at $499.
According to The Elec, the back of the iPhone SE 4 may resemble the iPhone 16 with a vertically arranged camera, sensor, and flash, while the front is similar to the iPhone 13 with a notch design and a 6.1-inch screen size.
The device uses a single camera, the sensor upgraded from 12 to 48 megapixels. LG Innotek is the company that benefits the most from this upgrade.
Some sources said that Apple has sought to reduce costs by letting BOE, Apple's cheapest screen supplier, produce 70% of the iPhone SE 4 screens.
In addition, the company also asked BOE to use older generation OLED production technology with lower maximum brightness on the iPhone 13. Apple's goal is to buy OLED panels for only $ 40 to maintain good profits when selling the iPhone SE 4.
