After 14 years, users can test Vietnamese Siri

14 years after Siri was introduced globally in 2011, Vietnamese has become one of the virtual assistant's language options. However, currently only those who register to use the iOS 18.4 beta 1 test version can experience Vietnamese Siri. The official version is expected to be available for download in March.

Meanwhile, features related to Apple Intelligence are not yet equipped with Vietnamese. When switching to Vietnamese in the settings, Siri cannot interact with Apple Intelligence. Previously, Apple said it would soon add Vietnamese language this year along with Chinese, English (India), English (Singapore), French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish.

When selecting Vietnamese with four different voice options, the virtual assistant Siri is still "awakened" by the familiar command "Hey, Siri". Users are also instructed to say 5 example Vietnamese sentences so that the device can recognize pronunciation and accent. Users can make calls, send messages, look up weather information, and schedules in Vietnamese. This is even more meaningful when driving, they can interact with the phone without touching the screen.

"Siri's Vietnamese language is great news for the smart home user community in Vietnam," said Thai Hung, administrator of a smartphone group with tens of thousands of members. "In addition to Google Home, Apple's HomeKit platform is widely used in Vietnam, so supporting Vietnamese will help many people, as well as become more popular in the future."

HomeKit-compatible smart home devices can be controlled on/off, view status, and remotely commanded via Vietnamese voice with Siri on Apple-supported devices. However, Vietnamese is not yet available for Siri on HomePod speakers.

To use it, users need to register for an Apple developer beta account by going toSettings -> General -> Software Update -> Beta Update. Then, download and update to the latest iOS 18/4 beta 1.
