Apple delays production of iPhone SE 4

Due to low demand for low- and mid-priced iPhones, Apple may delay, or even cancel, the iPhone SE 4.

According to analyst Ming Chi Kuo, Apple is considering canceling or delaying mass production of the iPhone SE 4 until 2024. In a tweet posted on December 21, the expert said the reasons for this include demand for low-cost and low-mid-range iPhones, such as the iPhone SE, iPhone 13 mini, and iPhone 14 Plus.

iPhone SE 4 design based on rumors

Multiple reports have suggested that Apple has struggled with sales of the aforementioned iPhone models, as they are not as appealing as similarly priced devices. This year, the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max have seen the highest demand, even in the face of supply chain disruptions that have affected production and deliveries.

However, this is not the only reason why Apple is considering canceling the launch of the new iPhone SE. According to Mr. Kuo, upgrading the device to a full-screen display will lead to increased costs. The current iPhone SE design is still based on the iPhone 8, using a 4.7-inch LCD screen containing the Home button and Touch ID.

The iPhone SE 3 is selling for $429 in the US, while the iPhone 12 – the cheapest iPhone model with a bezel-less screen – costs $599.

Kuo’s information lines up with previous rumors. In August, YouTuber Jon Prosser revealed that the new iPhone SE would look like the iPhone XR with a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina display. However, display analyst Ross Young said that Apple hasn’t decided on the size or display technology for the iPhone SE 4, suggesting that the device won’t be ready for launch next year.

Mr. Kuo commented that reducing "unnecessary new product development" will help Apple cope with the challenges of the economic recession in 2023.
