The Chinese brand electric car Aion ES has a range of 442 km, a 134 horsepower motor, and overall dimensions of D.
At the event announcing its business operations in Vietnam on October 16, along with the Y Plus, Aion launched the all-electric ES sedan model. The car is only sold in one version, priced at 788 million VND, imported from China.
The Aion ES has dimensions of length x width x height of 4,810 x 1,880 x 1,545 mm, and a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. These parameters of the ES are on par with the D-class sedan, Toyota Camry (4,885 x 1,840 x 1,445 mm), but the wheelbase is 75 mm shorter.
The wheelbase of the ES is slightly longer than some C-class sedans such as the Honda Civic (2,735 mm) and Hyundai Elantra (2,720 mm).
The Aion ES electric vehicle has a soft design. Without the need for a radiator for the front engine, the ES has a monolithic front end, angular LED headlights. The round rear end has a horizontal LED strip, connecting to the taillights.
In Vietnam, ES is equipped with 17-inch wheels, basic suspension with MacPherson front and dependent rear.
On the interior, the design shows no signs of being an electric car. The car has a two-spoke steering wheel with integrated buttons, an 8-inch screen that is quite small and somewhat separate from the overall dashboard. The gear lever is an electronic rotary knob.
The ES is a front-wheel drive sedan. The motor has 134 horsepower and 225 Nm of torque. The 55.2 kWh battery pack provides a range of 442 km. With i-Pedal mode, the car can travel longer. Using the standard 7 kW charger, it takes about 8 hours to fully charge the battery.
Aion does not invest in charging stations, instead it partners with third-party companies that provide charging services for electric vehicles.
The first 100 customers to order the ES will receive a 3-year or 60,000 km free battery charge promotion. The company guarantees the battery for 8 years or 200,000 km, and the car for 8 years or 180,000 km, whichever comes first.
The car's safety system is also at a moderate level with familiar technologies such as electronic balance, hill start assist, rear sensors/camera, cruise control, electronic brake force distribution, and automatic brake hold.
The selling price of Aion ES is competitive with the low versions of D-class sedans or the high versions of C-class sedans. For example, the standard D-class Mazda6 or the highest C-class Hyundai Elantra currently have a common price of 769 million VND.
ES can be an additional choice for customers who do not care much about brand factors and need a spacious car like a D-class sedan but at a C-class price.
