MG7 - sporty sedan launched, price from 738 million VND

MG distributor (SAIC Vietnam) launched MG7 for the Vietnamese market on August 28. MG7 is a low-chassis car in the D-segment and is also the most premium sedan of the British brand, MG (owned by SAIC - China).

MG7 is imported directly from China. The car is like an enlarged version of MG5. The exterior has a modern and sporty design in coupe style, inspired by MG Cyberster. This design is similar to the Korean Kia K5 model, creating a dynamic and youthful MG7, different from the traditional style of Japanese car manufacturers Toyota Camry or Mazda6.

MG's new D-segment sedan is equipped with LED headlights and daytime running lights. Large grille, decorated with chrome accents. The body has embossed lines creating a muscular shape. The car uses 19-inch alloy wheels, 5-spoke design with two tones. LED taillights have a similar design to the headlights and are connected by a thin LED strip.

The MG7's dimensions of length x width x height are 4,884 x 1,889 x 1,447 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,778 mm. Meanwhile, the Camry's dimensions are 4,885 x 1,840 x 1,445 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,825 mm. The MG7 has a shorter wheelbase but is wider overall. The coupe-style design will also make this model sacrifice interior space compared to the Camry's style.

The interior of the MG7 is minimalist in details. Dual screens, including a 10.25-inch LCD behind the steering wheel and a 12.3-inch entertainment screen in the center of the dashboard. Supports Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity. Electronic gear lever, leather seats with a sporty design. Three-spoke flat-bottom (D-Cut) steering wheel. 2-zone automatic air conditioning with fine dust filter system. 9-speaker Bose sound system.

MG offers two petrol engines. The 1.5 turbo has 167 horsepower and 275 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission. The 2.0 turbo has 227 horsepower and 380 Nm of torque, mated to a 9-speed ZF automatic transmission. Both are front-wheel drive. The 2.0 adds paddle shifters on the steering wheel.

The MG7 comes with ADAS driver assistance technology with many features, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, lane departure warning, emergency lane keeping, pre-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, 360 camera, and many other safety features.

MG7 is sold in Vietnam market with 3 versions, including 1.5 Luxury, 2.0 Luxurry and 2.0 Premium. The car has 5 exterior colors, including white, red, gray, blue, black. The interior has two color options. Specific prices:

MG's new sedan will compete with formidable rivals Toyota Camry (priced at 1.07-1.46 billion VND), Mazda6 (769-899 million VND), Kia K5 (859-999 million VND), Honda Accord (priced at 1.319 billion VND) and BYD Seal electric car (1.119-1.359 billion VND).

In the D-segment sedan segment in Vietnam, Toyota Camry is the best-selling model in the market. Camry always overwhelms its competitors in terms of sales volume. Cumulatively from the beginning of 2024, Camry has delivered a total of 789 units. Mazda6 is in second place with 279 units. K5 holds third place with 173 units and Accord has sold only 54 units since the beginning of the year.

The appearance of MG7 is a completely fresh breeze, when adhering to a distinct sporty style, something that is not yet available in this segment, which is a market segment with increasingly fewer customers. The advantage of low price and the most abundant equipment in the segment will be an advantage for the car from China, but what questions does MG need to solve, as the company put out the slogan "car for everyone".
