List of GAC Aion electric cars about to be launched to Vietnamese customers

Electric vehicle maker GAC Aion plans to launch electric vehicles in Vietnam in October, initially importing them from China.

GAC Group’s electric vehicle company Aion has officially announced its presence in Vietnam. Its first three models are the Aion ES electric sedan, the Aion Y Plus electric crossover, and a high-performance SUV Hyptec HT.

It is known that Aion electric cars will be imported from China in the first stage, so the expected selling price cannot be cheap. With plans to build a factory in Thailand, Aion will likely soon switch to importing cars from here to reduce the selling price.

Aion ES electric sedan

The Aion ES's dimensions are 4,810 x 1,880 x 1,545 mm in length x width x height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. Overall, the Aion ES's dimensions are close to the D-segment sedan segment, including a number of options for Vietnamese customers such as BYD Seal, MG7, Toyota Camry, Mazda6, Kia K5 and Honda Accord.

The Aion ES's exterior features sporty styling, minimalist LED lights, cube-shaped air vents, 17-inch multi-spoke wheels and a coupe-style tail.

The Aion ES interior is covered in leather. The car is equipped with an analog screen behind the 2-spoke steering wheel, a central touch screen, a knob-shaped gear lever, and 2-zone automatic air conditioning.

The Aion ES has a powerful 134 horsepower electric motor and a maximum torque of 225 Nm. The 55.2 kWh LFP battery pack provides a maximum operating range of 440 km after each full charge.

The Aion ES's battery pack can be recharged from 0-80% capacity in 40 minutes when connected to a 160 kW charging station.

The selling price of Aion ES in Indonesia is 386 million Rupiah, equivalent to about25,208 USD.

This price is similar to models in the lower segment such as Honda City (from 402 million Rupiah, about26,200 USD), Toyota Vios (from 367 million Rupiah, about23,960 USD), Mazda2 (from 367 million Rupiah, about23,960 USD) or MG5 GT (from 348 million Rupiah, about22,720 USD).

Aion Y Plus Electric Crossover

Currently the best-selling car line of GAC Aion, the Aion Y Plus electric crossover has dimensions of length x width x height of 4,535 x 1,870 x 1,650 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm.

With this size, Aion Y Plus is larger than many B-size SUVs and similar to VinFast VF 7, Mazda CX-5, models positioned in the C-size SUV segment. Vietnamese customers also have a number of other C-size SUV options including Honda CR-V, Hyundai Tucson, Kia Sportage, Mitsubishi Outlander along with Subaru Forester and Haval H6.

The front of the car has a wing-shaped LED daytime running light strip. The car doors can open nearly 90 degrees, the front seats can recline completely, and the luggage compartment capacity reaches a maximum of 1,200 liters when the second row of seats is folded flat.

The Aion Y Plus is also equipped with a panoramic sunroof, alongside an electrically adjustable and cooled driver's seat, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 14.6-inch entertainment screen with Apple CarPlay connectivity, 32-color interior lighting, and 6 Bongiovi DSP speakers.

The car has safety features such as automatic emergency braking, lane keeping assist, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control and a 540-degree camera.

The electric motor on the Aion Y Plus is 204 horsepower, with a maximum torque of 225 Nm. The 63.2 kWh battery pack provides a maximum operating range of 490 km after each full charge. When connected to a 160 kW charging station, the battery can be recharged from 0-80% capacity in 45 minutes.

Aion Y Plus has 2 versions for Indonesian customers. The Exclusive version with a maximum travel distance of 410 km costs 415 million Rp, equivalent to about27,100 USD. With the Premium version (operating range of 490 km), the car costs 475 million Rp, equivalent to31,020 USD.

In Indonesia, the main competitors of the Aion Y Plus include the Wuling Cloud EV ($25,935), BYD Dolphin (from$25,935) and Chery Omoda E5 (from27,355 USD).

Aion Hyptec HT High Performance Electric SUV

The high-performance electric SUV Hyptec HT features automatic gull-wing rear doors that open and close automatically, similar to supercars.

Aion Hyptec HT has dimensions of length x width x height of 4,935 x 1,920 x 1,700 mm, with a wheelbase of 2,935 mm.

The front of the Hyptec HT has an angular design. The headlights are 2-level LED, the taillights are strip-shaped, and the door handles on the body are flat. The Hyptec HT also has a panoramic sunroof, and 19-inch or 20-inch sports wheels.

GAC Aion equips the Hyptec HT with double-layer soundproof glass, flat-bottom steering wheel, 14.6-inch central screen, 2 wireless charging docks, electric seats with 10-point massage, integrated seat heating function. The rear seats have a maximum recline of 143 degrees, integrated armrests and work tables.

The Aion Hyptec HT engine has a maximum capacity of 355 horsepower and maximum torque of 430 Nm, helping the car accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.

The standard Aion Hyptec HT version is equipped with a 70 kWh LFP battery pack, allowing for a maximum range of 550 km on a single charge. The two higher versions use a 72.7 kWh or 93 kWh battery, allowing for a maximum range of 770 km.

In Indonesia, the Aion Hypetec HT starts at Rp 685 million, which is about44,735 USD.

In Thailand, the Aion Hypetec HT starts at 1.069 million baht (approx.32,000 USD) The Hypetec HT's main competitor is the Tesla Model Y, which starts at 1.749 million baht, equivalent to52,345 USD.
